Diff service

I had a problem with the rear diff as soon as I bought my a45 which the dealer and Mercedes both paid 50% each to replace.

So I had a brand new diff and was told that it would need a diff oil service at 1500 miles. I called to double check and was told 1200 miles then when I called to book it in I was told it doesn’t need one until it’s next service (September)

Surely a new diff would need a service as if it was a brand new car?

Any thoughts guys?

I would agree with OP, it should need doing just like it was a new car.
I doubt this should cost any more than £100, it should not have to go to mercedes for it though.

An early change would be of benefit to flush out any running in wear particles. If MB are making a fuss over it get it done somewhere else. It should be cheap enough but find the correct oil spec.

Excuse my post didnt see the Rear diff comment.
Still don't think any Diff should need doing so soon....
What does official service interval suggest....sounds like dealer trying to some money back....

Service interval from the car as new states 1500 miles so that’s what I’d say for a new diff.

It’s £120 with Mercedes. I want it done there for this reason. The car has just turned 3 years old and it had one of the services at a non MB garage. When it came to the diff failing, MB would only pay 50% as it had not been full MB service. If it had they would have covered it all. Don’t want to give them any excuses in case something happens again.

Just had mine done in Germany after 1600 miles in the car. 120 euro for it done which I have to claim back from Mercedes UK.
Free service and I got to drive a G wagon about for the day as a courtesy car which was amazingly convenient as it snowed the night before. win win.

That’s interesting, I was under the impression it would be at my own cost.

Am I right in thinking that as you haven't contributed to the cost of the replacement diff it won't be covered by their normal 2yr parts warranty?

Yeah, MB paid 50% and the indy dealer I bought it from, the other 50%

Yeh I got an email for my complementary running in service. Ask about it but I didn't actually have a running in service on my 45. Was told that I didn't need one on the 63 until someone on the forum advised me to ask about it, the dealer confirmed later that week.

Thanks Dan. I’ll give them a call tomorrow. I don’t mind paying at all and was expecting to do so, it I just want it done if it needs doing. They’re useless there. Been told 3 different things.

My dealer told me I didn’t need one, I got an email from AMG saying it needed doing at 2000 miles and it was included in the price of the car. Phoned dealer and they booked it in no problem f.o.c

Cool. Will see what they say tomorrow. Might be worth me trying a different branch.

Definitely get it done as it will clear running in particles also the diff oil change needs to be done via star to reset oil service data in vg all wheel drive control unit and to also actuate diff lock while doing figure of 8 on road test then to refill diff a further 200ml after this, this is the correct procedure...
