Do I have to deselect ECO every time I start up?

I have set the Individual mode in my GLC, comfort settings for the majority but sport steering and stop/start off.

If I have left the car to go into the supermarket or other relatively short periods of time it starts back up in Individual.so I don't need to turn economic off manually. However if it's been left overnight then it starts back up in Comfort so I have to flick it Individual or tap the economy off button. Would like to permanently disable it!

How does it work on MB?

On the Astra it tells you the biggest consumers of fuel on, MPG graph and averages and trends.

Eco mode when driving to work. Sport or paddles when driving home or on a Sunday cruise :). The difference is huge on the 55, especially when considering cylinder deactivation and exhaust flaps.

Yeah I've heard your engine is fantastic on fuel?

33-35mpg on the motorway, 24 or so round town. Not bad for a 5.5L V8! Of course it goes down pretty quickly with a heavy foot, but at least it can be reasonably economical for commuting. Plus the power is always there ready :). An impressive piece of engineering.

Wow! I need one of them next then! Would suit my mileage, private plate and want for a convertible :)

It's like Sport mode, which needs to be selected every time I start the car. It is really irritating when I stop for my fish and chips to have to reselect Sport mode. You'd think that if you stopped for less than 10 minutes, it would retain the last setting selected.

The latest C Class does retain it when stopped for about 4 hours. At least they recognise it.

Alternatively on the W205 C Class, it has a button to switch it off. I guess you guys need to look for this button.

That is good! my very humble 2 litre is only marginally better, and your performance is streets ahead.

My 3 litre is a lot better. How heavy is your foot? :D

Irritatingly I'm pussy footed running in eco mode!
Hardly going over 3000 rpm, gentle acceleration and coasting when possible.

Have you got 9 gears? I've only got 7 so that would explain some of the difference, but as your's a diesel it isn't really a fair comparison :)

The 5.5L V8 is a petrol so petrol to petrol is fairer :)

Yes 9, and it's a diesel. That being said in sport mode it drinks like Georgie Best.....

I asked mb about this too and was also told it was not possible to change the default eco mode, which my prev e350 and current e63 irritatingly always reverts to every time the engine is switched on regardless how long its been off. Its just become second nature for me now to switch off eco and select sport as part of my normal starting up routine. Hoeever, on a long mway run in rain & in the dark on Thursday evening i kept eco & comfort on as no intention of doing any spirited driving in the conditions and the e63 returned 26.6mpg ....

It is possible to code out the eco mode I know two people with 212 that have had it done. If you Google it's a guy in Scotland that also does remapping dpf delete etc and specialises in MB and BMW. So if he can do it I'm sure others can

Out of interest, how does 26.6 compare with your spirited driving on the same type of journey?
