Do people get out of your way?

My last car was a white octavia estate, wearing a white shirt and sidelights on, everything would jump out of the way if I approached with any difference in pace to their own.

The Vaneo doesn't spend much time in the outside lane, I tend to sit at 70ish in the inside \ middle as required, relaxed in the high seats, armrest \ radio two in full operation. Just too relaxing a place to be blasting down the outside lane in.

Yup I have a similar problem with my Sharan, obviously not as quick as your A3 but with 204 bhp it's not the normal dawdling MPV either. There's only a very small V6 badge on the grille.

Cross country I had a similar problem in the octavia, generally people would up the pace rather than allow me past, and then be somewhat surprised that I was still sat there.

(it looked somewhat ordinary, but with 220+ bhp and 4wd it carried some pace cross country)

Alternating headlights seem to have the desired effect.

(Must change mine back to normal soon  )

Everyone moved for our black E500! Especially with lowered AMG suspension and big rims...u really get respect.

lowering and rims mean nothing, it's all about the grill!

That said, my Father reckons his porsche 944 is pretty good for shifting people from the outside lane, it's guard's red and because it has pop-up headlamps etc it looks like some 80s supercar through the RVM, which I suppose is almost true ;)

yeah everyone gets out of the way when i'm in the 7 series

its also strange how people tailgate older cars. A few years ago i got my wife an old Toyota Corolla... it was pretty old and everyone used to tailgate you even if you were keeping up with all the traffic etc.

at the time i drove an almost-new mondeo and didnt get the same responce. strange.

In the Black ML people did move but then it wasn't really nice going much above the legal speed limit in that old thing!

The 406 coupe that I once had was fairly effective also.

I used to have a Saab Aero with Bi-xenons. When you turned them off they used to pulse for 5 to 20 seconds. Hellish usefull. Discovered it by accident as I turned off mains to sides on a slip road. Noticed that the signposts were blinking as my headlights "discharged". The cars infront of me pull over pronto as I flew past. Not wishing to look a prat and stay behind !

Looking at them when they used to do this, they definitely used to pulse from left to right in very fast binks. Certainly a proper high intensity stobe that could send you mad if I turned them off infront of my white garage door !

Useful yes, legal well erm possibly, they all do that Sir. Ethical certainly not !

my mate has rigged up a full on police siren and blue lights in the grill

he drives a 5 series

imagine how pis*ed off people get when he drives up behind them and sticks on the 'blues and twos' after they have refused to get out of the way (he antagonises them by flashing them and tailgating them)

of course it is anti social and childish and he will go to prison for impersonating a police officer, but then he is black so he says it will be a interesting sell in court

The Dutch have long memories!

All of these things are true but the exact opposite applies in Holland when bearing German plates.

I dont know why but its true !

Possibly because what Germany did on the 10th May 1940?:(

its quite easy to move a car out of the way:
1. Close the gap very quickly
2. Flash your lights
3. Get 3-5ft from their bumper
4. Drift side to side
5. They let you pass
6. You have now qualified as a BMW 316i driver :bannana: :bannana:

I had a friend did the same, one day he flashed a volvo in front of him, and the volvo flashed his blue lights back...

He got points and a fine.

4.5 Leave your rihjt hand indicator flashing!

Cant say many people move over for my C Class, but then again I make a point of not being the fastest car on the motorway - I'll happily do 95+ as long as other cars are, but dont like standing out to a copper in a hidden verge!

The bike on the other hand - since I fitted my race pipe most cars on A roads do everything they can to almost throw themsleves into a ditch to let me past! Nothing like a baffleless exhaust and engine at 13K rpm to get a driver attention. i look on it as a safety feature :D

All these comments speak of bad lane discipline. I have been on the M25 on occasion when the inside lane has been the fast lane!! Wonder what the answer is?
