Do these prices sound about right?

I was asked if the following prices were reasonable.

They look it to me as I had similar work done not so long ago which did cost a fair bit more.

However, I don't know for sure.

The car is a 56 VW Polo.

This is from an independent and I wonder how they compare to a VW main dealer:

I expect the hours will be pulled from the same estimating program that the main dealer uses.

Being that the hourly rate is pretty much half that of a main dealer , it doesn't seem too bad.
If it's oem parts then cost of bits will be similar , so just double the hourly rate.

75 quid a hour? I think that a fair bit for a VW indy? Of course for such basic work any garage could do it.

My local generalist garage charge £62 per hour plus Vat, which is the going rate round here. Seems reasonable for an indy to me.

£62 plus vat an hour for an indie?!

Average is £30-40 tops plus VAT round here.

Welcome to the south east!

Yeah, I know location has a fair bit to do with it. I use garages in N & NW London and a place just outside Chester. No need to guess which is far cheaper.

And I'd only make you cry if I told you the very modest hourly rate the M-B specialist charges on the west coast of Ireland. :D

Anyway, what's just as important is that you are happy with the overall service you receive. That's half the battle.

Houses cost a tenner where you live though.

£50 an hour to mend an old VW would be about right in the south.
