Dodgy window

Yesterday my rear passenger side window regulator gave up the ghost. On removing the door card I discovered that the operating cable (like a bike brake cable) had corroded and snapped.

I just rang the stealers and they will only sell me a regulator and motor combined for £170 plus vat. This is a real pain as the motors is fine.

Has anybody ever tried re-cabling one of these or am I going to have to visit my local breaker?

Thanks for you help guys.

The ebay seller didn't have anything to fit my car and Euro Car Parts were out of stock of the regulator without the motor (£47). I did, however, order a regulator with motor from them for £85. Still good value when compared to the Merc original at £170.
