Does anyone know how to change the kph?

Hi guys. I've read the manual and gone through all the settings but can't find an option to get rid of the kph icon and replace with outside temp.

It shows in the manual that it can be done but I just can't find the settings.

Can anyone help?

There are number of threads on here regarding this, you cannot change it for the UK market (handbook normally states this) as there is a legal requirement to be able to display both MPH and KPH and the speedometer is only in MPH.

The usual crap. There is a legal requirement that the car must be capeable of showing kph. Quality manufacturers such as Renault mange to give their customers the option of changing the display.... Something MB have forgotten.

The setting can sometimes be changed, but it needs someone with STAR to delete the UK coding.

Or possibly that MB wish to comply with the legal requirements of the country in which they sell their vehicles?:thumb:

No. MB can't be bothered. All the car has to do is to be capable of showing kph. For instance the Espace and Scenic, which have digital speedo's can be swapped over by pushing the trip stalk when switching the ignition on.

It says the speed can be displayed in mph or km/h (United Kingdom)

Surely that means I can change it to mph?

I don't think that setting is changeable on any UK car without the car being re-programmed by STAR. I think that I saw on some of the later cars that it is completely unchangeable.

Well, it's the only thing I don't like about the car so I'm not gonna complain too much.

Actually, scrap that. I also don't like that there is nowhere for me to put my foot when using cruise control but the rest of the car makes up for it.

First car I've ever had that receives text messages.

:D

Very handy having kph in Europe :)

is yours manual? as the autos should have a dead rest for your left foot?

If Renault can put a system in that gives mph at one time, or kph at another, but not at the same time legally, then why can't MB :dk::dk::dk::doh:[/QUOTE

I doubt either of us know the true and intended meaning legally but I suspect that MB and their lawyers have interpreted it as needing to display KPH to avoid any legal challenges?

Ultimately it matters not:thumb:

Yeah. Manual. It has the rest for my left foot, just nothing for my right. I can't keep it in the accelerator as I speed up, there isn't any space to the right and i put it on the floor that split second of extra one getting to the break in an emergency could mean crash or no crash

Oh. Another thing I don't like. Why put a light in the cup holder but not in the pitch black, cave like arm rest compartment?!

Hmm... We'll see if thats next place 'to decrease expenses', in W211 there is two yellow led inside the compartment. I'm saying this because just in another forum was discussion why in the earth discard illuminatin from main light switch symbols? Obviously W203 is latest model which still have light behind the symbols (W211 not )

This UK coding is funny thing, 'mid-european' coding it is possible to change mph/kmph AND get outer temperature on screen simultaneously... you must be hurry to compare imperial and SI units so temp cannot be disturb your awareness about your current speed in both units? :D

inclined to agree that it is annoying that the 'budget' manufacturers tend to have more 'features' than the supposed prestige car marques like Merc, Audi and BMW etc but the long and short is we will never know the rationale behind it all. There is no legal requirement for KPH and MPH to be simultaneously displayed in the UK though.

but can confirm it can be easily changed on STAR if needed but may depend on the homogenisation date: Coding / STAR and others with STAR I am sure will offer the same.
