....a surprise to me....I've got a really good deal on a E320 Avantgarde Estate! The S-Class got picked up today and to be honest, I was pleased to see it go. I am picking up the new car on the 1st of June - my local dealer has gone out of his way to be helpful.

I feel I've got a good deal on the car (price wise), and I've got him to throw in a set of roof bars, it's first service, six months road tax, and a loan car until mine is ready to collect.

Spec is pretty much bang on what I wanted i.e. metallic paint (not silver), leather, auto, heated front seats, rear facing seats, powered tailgate, telephone pre-wire and avantgarde spec. Car has 7k on the clock on a 53 plate. Got it for around £7.5k less than an equivalently specified 320CDI.

A big thanks to everyone that has helped guide me through the last three months - hopefully I will just get to enjoy the new car!

Nice car. Fingers crossed its a good 'un! You deserve to have better luck after what happened with the last one, it must have been very stressful.

You'll have to do quite a few miles before the extra fuel costs add up to the £7.5K price differential of the diesel! And you've got the bonus of having the smoothness of the V6 320 engine.

Am pleased for you Brett. I know the past three months have not been pleasnat for you to say the least! Hope the new car is all you want and more and of course lives up to expectations ;) :bannana:

Thanks - if the last car had been my first ever Merc, I wouldn't have ever come back to the brand. It's almost a distant memory already...

It sounds an excellent vehicle, I am so pleased that you are PLEASED :D :D

What colour is it (apart from not being silver)

Good luck,
John

Ahhh, the 64,000 dollar question...well I see it as being a working car...with the addition of the roof bars on top we can now carry two coffins - one inside, one on top....Yes, it's melanite black with apalca grey leather...

sounds a nice car,Who was the nice & helpful stealer though?

You see how we got right to the heart of the nitty gritties!!

Has it got the nano paint technology? This will help with restricting the 'swirlie' marks. I do hope you get the enjoyment that you deserve out of this very nice vehicle.

I could say folks are dying to see it but that might be in bad taste.

Good luck,
John

Western Mercedes-Benz in Edinburgh have been superb throughout the whole saga with my previous car, even though I didn't use them to source it in the first place. Their servicing guys have gone out of their way to help, and the sales team have been sympathetic and supportive offering helpful advice to try resolve the situation.

Having resolved the matter with the original dealer, they have supplied me with a good car at a good price and ultimately have kept me in a Mercedes. It would have been very easy to switch to another marque, and I may have never come back.

It has taught me a salutory lesson - sourcing the previous car "independently" saved me about £1k but earned me a whole lot of hassle when things went wrong.

Erm.....don't know. I also need to find out what cradle the car currently has in it so that I can change it if necessary. Off to do a search to read more about the UHI cradle...

glad to hear dealer was helpful.I found dealers over here in west coast such a mixture, not stating hidden finance details in deals, though I did manage to confuse them so much I got a better deal than they thought they gave me.Had to try different Dealers to get problems sorted properly.I do agree that for a little extra you do get things sorted, and am glad I went this route also.

If you are not aware the colour code and type of paint information can be found on the 'B' pillar. (The big metal pillar just behind the driver that has the door latch installed) There will be a three colour number and if it has a letter 'C' in front then you are in luck. The official date of this paint was January 04 build, but I have heard of owners with vehicles built in September\October 03 having it, but I have also heard of cars not having it between those months. :D

The telephone cradle should be for the Nokia range that includes the 6310i

Good luck, and enjoy reading the manual ;) War and Peace is a 'quicker' read. :D

Another reason why I am so against going down the import route. I accept that some members have had excellent experiences with importing their cars. I am just a natural pessimist that when things go wrong I want a sympathetic shoulder to lean on.

Most Stealers treat u nice as pie and bend over backwards just to get the sale BUT once u have handed over ur cash it is then "Welome To The Real World of MB..." once u need after sale support/service.

This is the third car I've bought from them and each experience I've had with them has been a good one. Can't say the same for other dealers that I've dealt with. As they say, find a good one and stick with them.

Thanks for that - will have a look when I get the car next week. It was registered in November 03, so I may get lucky...

C185 - looks like I got lucky! Car is lovely - a couple of additional nice surprises when I picked it up. They'd "forgotten" that it has a 6-CD Autochanger and a Tracker fitted to it.

Now just got to work out why the phone cradle doesn't appear to work properly (I can hear them, they can't hear me), and how to fold down the other two thirds of the rear seat.

:bannana:

Glad it's all sorted, enjoy the new motor - looks great in black

Thanks - took a while but got there in the end. I like it in black; that said I've had quite a few comments about it looking like a hearse etc.

Congratulations.

Will you do a discount for any part time work?? :D

No sense in saying how I'm dying to see pictures of the car, or is it drop dead gorgeous ;) ;)

Nothing wrong with black, and I'm sure it looks very nice.

Is your old S class back on the original dealers forecourt?

Regards,
John

Happy motoring,
John

Good luck with your car. I very nearly bought one, the E320 is a serious estate car. Her indoors wanted a ML, so that's what we've just got. It's new so should be OK. Anyway she drives it & I just have fun!!!!!......Enjoy your new wagon.

PS Like you I very nearly left MB!!
