W203 C220 CDI 2007
Hi Forum!

I'm a proud owner of a Obsidian Black 2007 W203 C220 CDI Avantgarde w/sport pack (non amg)

Has anyone had their DPF removed from their W203 C220 CDI Facelift?

Not sure if I have one or not, but it looks like I have two boxes after the turbo. The first should be the Cat the second should be either a cat or dpf.

How do I tell which one it is and can I remove them without any problems for better flow.

Thanks in advanced

Very few cars were fitted with dpf's - they were an option for a while to drop the tax for company car users.

Not sure how you can tell for absolute certain, but if the tailpipe is at all sooty then you haven't got one. Also there should be a warning label under the bonnet to only use low ash oil.

ETA: Apparently it's option code 474 - have a look in the back of the service book and see if that option is listed.

interesting, no 474 code in the service book or engine and I have a sooty exhaust.

I assume I have a two cat system then. The two boxes in mine look the same (externally). Can I remove the second one and replace with a straight through pipe?

My Dads C220 CDI has only one of these. His is 2002 model.

Can you take a pic of the back of the air filter housing and I will confirm if you have a dpf.

Are you talking about two pipes coming out the back of the air box? I was told this before and I do not see anything like that, but I'll take a photo tomorrow.

Heres a photo of the back of my air box (bulkhead side)

Thanks BlackC55 :)

I also removed the whole airbox this afternoon to have a look and just saw the two cats.

Assuming that there is nothing connected to the second cat section (ie lambda), can I have it removed and replaced with straight through pipe without any problems?

My Dad's 220 CDI pre-face lift only has one. If the exhaust system is similar perhaps I could just buy the section after the first cat of the pre-facelift if it is compatible, otherwise have one custom one.

Correction on my comment on the the lambda - it is between turbo and first cat, as listed as upstream oxygen sensor.

Gutted the second cat which I thought was the DPF and noticed improved throttle response and midrange. No noise increase, infact it seems quieter and smoother. Yet to comment on mpgs, but I am pleased.
