Well it's been a couple of months now since i've had the car now and after getting over the shock of the mpg if you lead foot it i'm getting now getting 44mpg min on a 35mile run (95% motorways) but this is my question :- as i'm only driving at around 60mph 1500rpm is this ok for the DPF to work?? or should i once a week do the trip at say 70-80mph ???

Thanks

Paul

One a week give it an Italian tune up.

Speed is not important but giving a good high rpm drive for a few miles will help keep everything clear. Diesels do like to clog up their exhausts if not given a bootfull every so often.

thats what i thought every once in awhile i'll give it a blast (pay day) lol and then i also hold it in gears around the 2k mark so hopefully that should be ok

MERCEDES' advice in the handbook is that that any DPF car should undertake a journey that lasts for at least 20 minutes every 500 kilometers [ 300 miles ] to allow the regeneration process to take place in a car where the exhaust has reached adequate temperature. They would probably say that it helps to " cane it" a bit as well but that might lead to other problems from owners enthusiastically over revving and possibly driving too fast- so they don't. ;)

As I drive about 650 miles per week, almost all on motorways, usually between 70 - 85 mph, should my DPF be pretty clean and I don't need to worry about this then?

Your car usage is probably close to ideal for a DPF provided you use the correct engine oil 229.31 or 229.51 at service time.
