Dragon Performance Chip for CDI engines

Anyone here got such a ship on a CDI engine ? If so, any comments?

I am sure you meant "Chip" as my CDI is a big "Ship". :D

Moving to engine section.

On a different forum someone chipped there 320CDI. It certainly improved the performance for a couple of weeks!!!!!

He has now removed the chip and is trying to replace the car under US Lemon Law because his engine is down on power and his dealer cannot fix it?????

If you fit the chip could you keep me updated regarding any improvement in performance please?

Regards,
John

Not familiar with the Dragon Performance chip, but I had a 'Tuningbox' fitted to my E320CDI recently for a while. Performance was certainly improved, but I felt that it lost quite a lot in driveability, so I removed it the other day. As far as I can ascertain, it would appear that ECU remapping is the best way to go, though more expensive. Might try it when I'm feeling rich! :)

I was told that the new W211 E320 CDI could not be chipped, as it is in effect a chipped W210. The only way to increase performance is with the ECU settings.

Hi Brian,
I read your question and then went surfing (even in these storm force winds)

This is a copy of two posts that this 'gentleman' submitted. To me it sounds like your post is correct, but thats only my interpretation.

""I got my 05 CDI chipped the other day and WOW this thing is a real beast to drive now. Well worth the $275.00. Punch it at a grean light and you get smoke... not diesel smoke but tire smoke. They just want to spin everytime. Got new 19in Brabus style rims this week with new tires so that should help me stick to the road better, when I get them installed.
Anyone else chip theirs yet?"""""

Then someone asked where it was done

"""Speedtuningusa.com did the chip I guess they flashed the ecu. I sent them the ecu and got it back in 2 days. They told me that dealer cant tell unless they go in to read the settings in the ecu. Got better boost and fuel. Really made a difference""".

As I stated in my previous message, he has now removed the chip and is claiming a new car.

Hope it throws some light on your suggestion.

Regards,
John

Does make you wonder whether they upset his ECU by enhancing then de-enhancing performance?

Hence the underpower. Buyers beware of unofficial ECU mods.

Most new car ECUs can be flashed. It does axactly the same as chipping but instead of the new program being written to a new EEprom and that inserted into the ECU, the existing ROM is flashed through the data port.

W211 CDis have more power than 210s because the fuel pressure was raised to 1600 Bar from 1200 Bar.

Any road car has the opportinity for chipping or reprogramming.

I saw a 320 Cdi advertised at MB Hull with 300Bhp and full AMG bodykit and wheels. Tempting!

Digi Tec offer to increase output from 197 to 242bhp "" a stunning 23% performance gain"" The 320CDI is actually rated at 204bhp.

308bhp????? I am interested in reading about these 'adaptions' but that is all. I like my car too much to risk causing it 'pain and suffering' It reaches the national speed limit pretty darn quick and has a more than ample turn of speed. If you are tempted then good luck.

I would love to know what the insurance premium would be, and how long would the engine last? (definitely longer than the vehicle warranty)

John

To throw a spanner inthe works i chipped my w211 e320cdi with a unit from SPEED-BUSTER.CO.UK when it was 6 mths old. I noticed an immediate increase in power and the accelaration from stop and mid range is fantastic. Ive now done over 30k and the engine is running as sweet as ever. The strangest thing of all was a marked increase in the fuel ecconomy. It claims to have increased the engine from 204 to 243bhp. The car is serviced regular and the unit is easy to remove and replace. However last time i forgot but it did not show up on the comp!

Do you mean decrease in fuel economy?

One members W210 320CDi is running about 250 BHP and the only casualty has been the differential.

Just to back up plgibson the Digi-tec advert also claims 'greater economy' I for one am in no rush to find out.

No its defiantly increase in fuel economy. I regularly travel to sth france following or being followed by a similar car (2mths newer) without the chip and at constant speeds of 110 he has to refuel well before me.

You definately get better fuel economy and better performance.

But people, if you're serious about getting your car chipped then reputation is everything. A lot of products out there are very crude ranging from the resistor mod to something that just increases the fuel pressure.

I am very happy with my car but unfortunately my driving style better suits a vehicle on a full maintenance lease. I haven't decided whether its better for me personally to buy or lease as lots of money gets burnt either way.

I will admit that the biggest problem I have is that I am only too keen to unleash the power of my car. For example, an inferior vehicle is dancing dangerously close to my sexy derriere even though he/she can see cars in front of me. As soon as it is clear in front of me, I say "And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay me vengeance upon thee" and bury the accelerator and watch the cretin behind me disappear.

Further down the road, usually someone pulls out in front of me without looking which brings us to the next problem. The standard brakes are barely adequate on an unmodified car. They are useless when you have 250+BHP. The cost of high performance brakes is enough to make you feel woozy. If like me you are running standard brakes then they will take a hammering meaning lots of discs and pads to be paid for.

In essence, high performance usually equals high maintenance! Don't worry too much though as we're not alone. Nissan Skylines are notorious for shearing 2nd gear!

Welcome to the forum. But the thread is 6 years old so unlikely to get a reply from the original poster. But I don't think you care since you're just here to advertise. Bye.
