Just found this on another forum.

Makes you stop and think especially this time of year.

WENT TO A PARTY, MUM

Please read all the way to the bottom and sign your name)

I went to a party,

And remembered what you said.

You told me not to drink,
So I had a sprite instead.

I felt proud of myself,

The way you said I would,

That Ididn't drink and drive,

Though some friends said I should.

I made ahealthy choice,

And your advice to me was right,

The party finally ended,

And the kids drove out of sight.

I got into my car,

Sure to get home in one piece,

I never knew what was coming, Mom

Something I expected least.

Now I'm lying on the pavement,

And I hear the policeman say,

The kid that caused this wreck was drunk,

Mom, his voice seems far away.

My own blood's all around me,

As I try hard not to cry.

I can hear theparamedic say,

This girl is going to die.

I'm sure the guy had no idea,

While he was flying high,

Because he chose to drink and drive,

Now I would have to die.

So why do people do it, Mom

Knowing that it ruins lives?

And now the pain is cutting me,

Like a hundredstabbing knives.

Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom

Tell daddy to bebrave,

And when I go to heaven,

Put " Mommy 's Girl" on my grave.

Someone should have taught him,

That it's wrong to drink anddrive.

Maybe if his parents had,

I'd still be alive.

My breath isgetting shorter, Mom

I 'm getting really scared.
These are my finalmoments,

And I'm so unprepared.

I wish that you could hold me Mom,

As I lie here and die.

I wish that I could say, "I love you, Mom!"

So I love you and good-bye.

The table is quite good, but reaction times are slower etc, so the only safe way is leave the car at home, or dont drink. As risks go, this is one I don't feel is worth even considering. If I saw anyone, be it friend or anyone else attempting to drive whilst drunk, I would either try to give them a lift if they were a friend, or ultimately call the police. I lost one friend through drinking and driving and no one tried to stop him. We now all live with the memory of him with that big question, "What if I had tried to stop him".

There's no way I'm drinking and walking I'll stick to the car where I'm safe ;)

incredibly poignant

If that first bit didn't hit home then this will. Posted by one of the site members.

I can relate to that - Wed August 24th 1994 at 4:15pm, I was following my girlfriend at the time, Sarah, through Birmingham on the Hagley Road. She was 6 months pregnant with a boy and we were going to call him Jason. She was driving the car (Metro) and I was following on the Bike (RG500 Gamma). As we went through the T-junction with Rotton Park Avenue, a drunk driver came through a red light in his Range Rover and pushed her into the oncoming traffic. The hospital switched the machines off a week later as she was clinically dead. They couldn't save Jason either. Even now I have a beautiful partner and son, whenever I see 11 year olds playing I wonder what Jason would be doing now, would he be playing with them, what would he be like...etc... I still cry about it every now and then even now - the pain never goes away, it just gets easier to deal with and the reminders get less and less. The driver got 6 years for death while under the influance - or something like that - which was reduced to 4 years on appeal. I now have no respect for the justice system employed in this country, and those of you who know me will know that is why I don't drink.

If you only ever do one thing in life, just don't drink and drive.
