Driver died after suffering laughing fit at wheel of his Mercedes

How many members here occasionally defy the law of the land by driving at 71mph (putting it mildly)? Do none of them deserve any sympathy if the unfortunate occurs?

I feel sorry for the guy. It can't be helped when your driving down the road and see a BMW.

He was from my village. I'm sure the wife will know whether he was deserving of sympathy !

Completely out of context. The reason for a seat belt is for the unforeseen. When the unforeseen appeared he was left needlessly vulnerable - entirely by his own volition. It's pretty obvious that all that happens at 71mph is a one mph increase on 70mph.
If anyone feels inclined for sympathy, what about what he has needlessly subjected his family and friends to? He clearly didn't give a toss for the suffering he has inflicted on them yet I'm being accused of lacking sympathy.

If we leave the emotional response and sympathy for this individual aside I find it hard to believe there are people still driving around without seat belts after it being a legal requirement for so long. If I saw someone habitually doing it they would have no sympathy from me and for their own sake and their families sake I'd be wishing they got pulled for it. I don't think I could be a passenger in a car where the driver wasn't belted up. I have a real concern that modern passive and active safety systems make some drivers feel invincible. It's not a healthy state of mind to be in, for them or for the rest of us.

That's a bit harsh

Maybe someone who knew this chap is reading this

Hope you are happy with your continued stance

For the Londoners among us... how many here use seat belts in black cabs?
