Drivers door rattle W203....

I have a drivers door rattle driving me mad, i have removed the door card but nothing obvious (although didnt completely remove as didnt have time). If i do the window down it seems to stop rattling, any ideas what it could be?? Maybe the regulator??

Correction, seems to stop the rattle if the window is all the way down....strange

It could well be the regulator but it would be easier to look with the door panel completely off and go from there.

does it only rattle when you are driving or can you get the rattle by banging the door as it wil be easier to diagnose if you get it by banging it

It does it when first start the car just from vibration and also when you shut the door. You can also get it to do it by banging the door too....Yes only way is to strip the door down properly.....Bugger.....

What does the rattle sound like is it a metalic type rattle as im thinking the regulator and runners are pop rivetted in the door so just trying to think what else it could be

It sounds like it would if there was a screw driver or something in the door pocket and you banged it to make it rattle......It reverberates though so its something thats attached in part i guess.....

That is very strange not too sure if it is the regulator then but you never know with these mercs.

Im intrigued to find out what it is though as this is a ne one on me

Might be worth checking the rivets on the window winder mechanism, I had a similar problem on a beemer, took me a while to find. One of the pivot rivets was nearly worn through, but it only rattled in the closed position. The fix was to remove the regulator, drill out the worn rivet and replace it with a short shouldered bolt and lock-nut.
