Hello fellow members, I have a clk270cdi 55 plate. the headlight cover have gone really dull & i want to bring them back to something like they used to be. I have read that you can polish the headlight covers & thanybody have any advice ey will come back as new. Does on this please ?

Farecla G3 Body Prep Clay Mitt
Did mine with this by chance and I couldn't believe how good the results were
I used it with the G3 detailing lubricant

Did mum last week with meguirs kit and a drill. Great results.

I would say I'm 75% happy with the Meguiars kit, it really did make a difference. I'll get the 3M one and give it a blast too. Won't do any harm.
There is a guy with an R230 that drops off his kids at school same time as me. His lights are misty too. I'll stop him one morning for a chat.

Headlights on my ML (W163) were cloudy - but I found new replacement ones for £70 each which did the job perfectly.

Cloudy headlights even more prevalent on the med coast of Spain - where there are specialist mobile repair franchises doing a fix. I am told that once polished back, the cloudiness returns fairly soon and needs polishing every couple of years - but I am not sure how true this is.

A bodyshop can also mop the lens back to neat new condition in a short time for a small outlay. If you're not DIY minded, that might be another option.

Once polished the lens need treating with clearcoat lacquer to stop the UV rays doing the same again.

I have just done the offside fog light on my S320 I needed to do it as I have replaced the nearside one with a new one ,and this made the offside look a bit tired, all the muck which was mostly grime and salt with toothpaste and hot water and elbow grease,it has come up well

Aha! That's what's going wrong. :thumb:

Rubbing compound and electric orbital polisher-did my mums (Co)modus this very morning , then a coating of carnauba wax . Did other cars this way and lasted well.

500 grit wet & dry Then 1000 grit wet & dry Followed by 2000 grit wet & dry And quick polish with t/cut or compound Then finally a quick coat of wax....... Works every time 100% guaranteed results

I thought that was for glass headlights ?

Not sure? I've done it on a few previous cars of mine and can't remember what type of headlights they were, I definitely remember doing it to an xr3i, they would've been plastic

will any of the cleaning products effect the lens?
