hi all just been reading the new mercedes owners magazine winter 2004. there is a feature story on the telematics and a write up on comand. they state the latest version (okay in a s class) also offer a brids eye view of the map screen, mine does not do this. car was bulilt july this year running version 3 map

does anybody know if this is a software tweak or because of map versipon 4?

thanks

kenny

I have map v4 - but no birds eye view. can anyone help ?

what do you mean by 'birdseye view'?

I was going to ask the same question.

Am I correct in thinking that the S class has exactly the same system and upgrades as the DVD version fitted in the 211?

Please feel free to describe exactly what you mean by 'Birds Eye' view so that we can try and emulate it.

Regards,
John

hi all, when you selectview options you get 2d direction of travle and 2 d heading north, apprenlty with birds eye view option you see a terrian mapo

there is a picture in the magazine but i dont have an electronic copy

2D orientation to the North
2D Heading Up

Or words very similar are the settings we have.

Hope this helps.

John

My freinds one can have a veiw looking directly down onto the map ' Birds eye' is that what you mean?

Don't Tottenham make you sick eh John? Why do we bother lol

i might be wrong but do you have the aps50 system which just shows the directional arrows on the centre display?

:D IF only they had a little more BOUNCES-BACK-ABILITY. :) (Do I get a mention on Soccer AM?)

Regards,
John

so you have the same as me, but in the magazine it say's the latest version has birds eye view, i suspect this is an software upgrade much like the mp3 stuff was. i have the dvd comand, not the audio 50

thanks

kenny

Its DVD Command. The view is rather like that seen on an alpine system - in that you have a drivers eye view. ie, perspective adjusted view showing the road ahead. Its a 3D view (or perspective adjusted 2D view). I've not seen it before.

Link here shows the kind of view I'm talking about...http://www.alpine-europe.com/alpine/cms/details.php?p=528&details=1 - scroll down where it says '3D motorway junction guidance.'

Clarky.

Dynamic Route Guidance does not work on any of the DVD Comand systems. The old CD system is better. I have got both.

Yep me too. The old system TMC is rubbish compared to the new DVD version though...

The old system is better.. have you got both.. I have

The old system has Dynamic Route Guidance, TV, AV1, AV2, Video out for my rear roof screen.

And you can re-programme it with V5 Star coding to keep the TV screen active whilst driving.

The new DVD system may have a nice 16:9 screen with split image graphic, but thats it. The Harmon Kardon audio is nowhere near as good as the Bose it replaced on the old system.

Don't believe me. come round and see both, side by side

I have both already thanks ! I concur with you re the Harmon Kardon, its useless compared to the Bose system. I'd also say the older system has better functional use options (does that make sense) compared to the new one - particularly with regard to navigation etc.

Dynamic route guidance - well its a capability thats enabled by the nav disc, not the hardware (except for the TMC decoder which they both have). Like I say - I've seen it in test on the new DVD system - its a LOT better than the old.

For TV / AV1 / AV2 etc I take your word for it - I've never bothered with TV. Don't see the point personally !

I guess its what you use it for.

On my Sprinter I have a Pioneer DVD navigation system, it has far more bells and whistles than the COMAND system which is fine for me laying in the back watching the screen as I get 'zoomed in' images of junctions, roundabouts etc. but the nitty gritty of any navigation system is it's information. "Left in 200yards" "First Exit from the roundabout" etc. As a driver you cannot be travellinmg at 70mph studying a pretty birds eye view of the road.

Does Linguatronic allow you to verbally operate the COMAND? That is something that I really like. As soon as you get into a long hold-up the Pioneer only needs a verbal "Divert" command and you instantly get a new route.

John

Linguatronic does allow you to operate Comand, including entering an address or place of interest. Zoom the map. Mute the voice commands, and so many other things

Change/Tuner radio station.. Dial telephone numbers using voice commands figures or memory positions... change the cd and tracks... read sms messages it goes on..

Here is the complete list of commands to use on the Linguatronic Voice Control. For ease of operation, some functions may be performed with several voice commands. These are shown in groups in the list which are separated by an empty line. You can choose which one you wish to use.
