Could anyone point me in the right direction please.
2005 E220 estate.
transmission lever will only select reverse and first.
it then locks until you turn the key off.
my iCar soft reader will not connect to transmission ?
does all the checks and then just resets itself.
found 3 fuses but all are ok.

the fault came on suddenly and there are no warning lights on.

any ideas please
thanks

Is this a 722.6 transmission ? have you checked for oil seepage into the TCU plug ?

No I didn’t . I didn’t go under the car as it’s bit difficult in my drive.
just trying to work out if it’s going to be very expensive the car may get scrapped
I remember that connector from my own Car. Bit of a fight getting connected.
is the range finder inside of the gearbox ?
Thanks

If your car does have a 722.6 transmission it is most likely the most reliable part of the whole car . Very few MB's get scrapped due to 722.6 transmission failure. It's very robust and quite simple to fix (relatively speaking) compared to others . It has one good feature..

A lot of diagnostic and actual repair can be made without removing it from the car. Faulty selectors can be replaced from inside the car .

Do you have any written history of a gearbox service ?

Whilst researching the problems I had with my gearbox, I seen a Youtube video with similar issues to yours, the solution was to change the gear selector. Checking the transmission oil level would be my first check. If the oil level is low I'd then check for leaks. Next check would be the selector as I believe in some models the selector has additional pcb control units.

Have you tried disconneting the battery for 15-20 mins and then reconnecting? wont always work but its a cheap first move.
I had an Icarsoft MB 2.0 and it read my S211 transmission?
Now have an Xtool A30M which is Bi-Directional does most of icarsoft does on Benz including actuating air bag fill/empty and and covers whole range of other makes for £139 runs on Android phones or a tablet. I bought a cheap 10" tablet from Amazon £50 for my dodgy eyes.

And my 722.6 Trans started acting up at 225k; did a valve body refurb using Sonnax valve body repair kit and new conductor plate.
As others have said start with simple and cheapest things , Check oil level and also oil contamination of electric connector plug, then Trans oil/filter change.
Most importantly get it on a good quality code reader ASAP.
