Mine's the same, 2013. Is it supposed to open wide?

Same on my coupe- I just put some heavy duty cable ties around the first couple of coils on each spring- springs up nicely now...

Ours doesn’t spring open either. Be interested in following this thread.

Not sure if it’s still a thing, but on my W219 CLS you could adjust the springs by putting them in different holes as to how far open the boot springs. As I said though, not sure if this is still the case. Might be worth a check.

I cleaned all the drainage channels in the boot of mine - this helped initially worked but now its gone back to being lethargic.

Several cars ago, I had a brand new E Class Coupe (59 plate) and the boot never sprang open, I just assumed that was by design...

Hi,
I am pretty sure I have a menu in the cluster that allows the boot to either spring open or just off of the latch, IIRC it is in the Convenience settings.

Mr Filipov is correct, there are other holes at the end of the springs which you can use to extend the spring tension. They are quite awkward to reach though.
I ended up doing the same as Jasons69, used 2 heavy duty tieclips wrapped around 2 coils on the spring on each side of the boot & now lid springs open fully. There are foam rubber plugs inside the springs, it’s easier to fit the tieclips if you pull them out 1st then push back in when done. Hope this helps.

Is anyone able to post of picture of the cable-tied springs please? I'm having trouble visualising this solution...

Thanks in advance.

I tried looking at this earlier and I couldnt get a strong cable tie threaded through the spring.

The above seem to be torsion springs, is that what yours are like?

The get there power from being twisted, as opposed to expansion springs, below, which get there power from being expanded.

@Dec yes, mine are like the first photo. Hence I can't see how cable ties can help...

There must be some way of re-tensioning the torsion springs alright but not sure exactly how it is done.

The cable ties would be applicable to the expansion springs, the wouldn’t work on the torsion springs.

yes . torsion springs are what is on my E-250 Cab. I can't see a way of increasing the tension. hey are expensive for what they are.
if anyone has any ideas of how to increase the tension power ?

Not the same thing now, but the same principle as an up and over garage door with a torsion spring.

Someone will know exactly how it’s done.

Is five the same shape all the way around? Otherwise there maybe some adjustment? Bit like a camshaft
