Hi all, I posted recently regarding SBC pumps and DPFs but the thread ended up concentrating on the SBC pump problem I have. So I'll ask again about DPFs on the current E Class range.
I'm considering trading in my 2003 E270CDi for a 3 year old E Class but most of my mileage consists of shorter journeys. Concern over frequently having to take the car out for a run to clean out the DPF is what turned me off of the Jaguar XF, there's a lot of DPF woe in their forums.
What's the E Class like in that regard? Any models in particular I should avoid? Anyone own a diesel and do similar motoring to me?
Does having the car remapped to remove the DPF mean there's a chance it might fail the MOT emissions test?
I could, of course, consider a petrol vehicle :-)

DPFs came in around 2005ish (I think I got the year wrong before) so all the current E class will have them from the factory.

If you are doing low miles, I would definitely consider a petrol.

No idea if they have problems but there is a funeral directors near to me which have a hurse and limo which are both the new gen of E class CDI and i dont suppose they get much high speed runs..

Ha! Jeez what a thought...a second hand hearse. Who knows what could be in the ashtrays.

Yeah, I'll have a look to see what's available in petrol. Not been inundated from replies from members complaining about DPFs though. Maybe, just maybe Mercs suffer less probs than Jags.

Who knows - you don't really get the full picture.

I know of 3 XFs that I think have been problem-free.

With a DPF - the occasional say weekly blat should keep it ticking over.

You don't know those hearses aren't given a good thrashing after dark!

What are the potential problems with a blocked DPF?
