e200 boot wont open

the boot on my 2004 e200 will not open except by using the little metal key.the number plate lights stopped working at the same time.has this happened to anyone else.
any advice would be appreciated.

Its possible you have damaged harness or no ground (corroded or damaged) and thats why those wont work.

Hi,
Take a look at where the boot hinges as the loom quite commonly gets damaged at this point.

is this something i could fix myself or would i have to take it to dealer.
(i have set of spanners,good eyes , limited knowledge and a difficult financial situation)
