E220 CDI AMG Sport
Hi all,

I've got a Mercedes E220 CDI Sport AMG- However, I feel it's somewhat unnecessary to advertise the fact I've got the lowest spec diesel! I also think the boot will look a bit tidier without the badges. Now I'm very aware of the techniques used to remove the badges- WD40, dental floss, hairdryer. I'm just concerned if I go out there with a hairdryer I could damage the paintwork or the the paint behind the badges might be a different colour as it hasn't been exposed to weathering...lol. I know it's not an old building but still!

Any thoughts much appreciated!

You'll be fine. Just keep the hairdryer moving over the badges.

ps. I thought E200 CDI was the lowest spec diesel

I wouldnt worry about people seeing its a 220. There is nothing wrong with a 220 anyway.
Probably only MB fans would be any the wiser and Mb fans could probably tell which engine it has by other factors such as exhausts, tyre sizes etc.

I just don't like the fact it's there! With the pre-nosejob E-Class, the larger engine cars were fitted with American style gear-selectors and twin tail pipes, however this now appears to be fitted to all the E-Classes engine-wide....I'll slap on an E63 badge instead. Kidding!

I think the E200 CDI has been discontinued since the facelift.

Hi, what do you mean which part?

Wheels and some body panels. Same as all "Sport AMG" branded cars, mine included.

Slightly off topic perhaps but- does anyone know of a rough guide figure for how much a set of E63 alloys would cost?

Dental floss and hairdryer worked on mine. They just needed a little heat to soften the glue and off they came. I used a little bit of wax to polish the lid then to remove the inevitable dirt and stain left behind. Now there's no sign the badges were ever there.

Just for clarity, you're taking the badges off your 220 and fitting E63 wheels?

I used the stuff that binds bundles of magazines - a gentle see-saw action and the badges are easily removed with no damage.
Am MB dealer told me that's how they do it.

Discs are the give away - multi spoke wheels show the small discs/calipers very well.

Never thought of that with the brakes, so an E220 is distinguishable from an E350 because of the size of the brake callipers?

I think the E63 looks amazing, although I do like my Sport, the standard alloys are a bit on the small side, however after looking at the price list for AMG alloys I'll leave it. I think someone fitting AMG alloys to a non-AMG Mercedes is acceptable, it's when those AMG badges and fake quad exhausts start coming into the mix...massive no-no in my eyes.

Yes I would like to remove E220 CDI badge- what's the point of them (lol). though as it's a new car I'm slightly paranoid about causing any damage or the paintwork being different underneath the badges.

I see you own an E63? Class.

You will be fine.

I used a spoon wrapped in a cloth to pick at the double sided foam tape that was left behind.

I took mine off my car when it was six years old, and there's no way to tell where they were. I just don't like badges: nothing to do with shame or snobbery. A badgeless car is easier to clean - although I have left the tailgate star on.

Those who know will know and those that don't know won't care!

I debadged our (jasper blue) Vito when brand new and (obsidian black) C Class when 7 years old - no problems or issues in either case. I cut through the fixing tape with dental floss.

With the Vito I simply used some strong adhesive tape to 'roll' the remnants of the adhesive off the paintwork. No heat, solvents, polish, scraping, etc.

With the C Class there was a faint 'outline' showing where each letter had been (caused by a build up of road grime etc. over the years, I guess) - this polished off.

Go for it!

I did mine this weekend, a combination of OCD cleaning and vanity!
I used an old credit card to prize off the numbers then detailing spray and a cloth (and elbow grease) to remove the sticky stuff..
then for the hell of it..
clayed, polished, sealed and waxed the boot!
They've been there 8 years, no sign or mark of them ever being there now :-)
