Hi All,

Here is my ongoing saga that I realy need advice on.

The car(w124 1995) started to misfire when it was working perfectly the day before when started the next day. This has happened twice before over two years and a coil change sorted it out both times so I assumed this was coil 3 gone. Since taking it to the garage it now will not start after the coil change? (I drove it there by the way?). They have looked at everything they say but are just following the usual path of cam sensor, fuses, relays etc but they can not use the fualt codes as its the old type and they dont have access. There is no spark to the coil and they are saying the only thing it may be now is the ECU? but I drove it there so? It has a factory fitted alarm that has never worked as far as I know as I only have 2 keys an no remotes. Any ideas? Long winded sorry but I am getting desperate now.

Thanks, Paul

We had a similar saga with ours. Previous owner replaced the wiring loom. We had intermittent misfire. Several new coil packs and HT leads later it turned out the rotten loom had fried the ECU. Suggest you sit down now with a stiff drink. New ECU part alone £1400 + VAT + fitting. I really hope you have another cause. Its an expensive part to change unless you are certain. We had a warranty which covered most of the cost. They can be repaired I understand.
