I have a E300td that I am about to look at for a friend of my father. He says it cuts out while on the motorway at slow speeds at anytime and any temp.

I think its fuel related but maybe someone with more experience with these can shed some light on it.

Thanks in advance

PS I am poping down the pub now:bannana: so may not be able to answer any questions till the AM.

Crank position sensor, ignition switch or air leak come to mind. The air leak its the most common as the ECU should use alternate sources to check rotation if necessary.

CKP is the obvious but as you said the ecu will use alternate sources for tdc no.1.

I willl check for an air leak. Are there any common places.

The filter head clear pipes.

I'm not sure the ECU can substitute for the CKP, just the rev sensor in the pump.

I was thinking of a vacuum leak not a "air leak". Silly me. I have replaced a few of those fuel pipes before along withthe non-return valve. Thanks for your help

There is no air in the syatem at all and always starts well. I have just been to look at the car this morning.

When the problem happens the dash lights flicker too. I think it might be related to ther ignition switch????

I will do a short test on it first to see what fault codes are stored.

Probably worth checking the main connections and earths as well.

Had a similar problem on another car, and it proved to be the engine earth strap was almost not existent. Not sure if MB's have those, but maybe worth a look
