Hi all

Picture attached of 98 E300TD showing the operating temp. Is this temp low enough to warrant a thermostat change. Thoughts please.

A bit cooler than normal but not excessively so. I would worry if it read 40/50.

Hope not, my E320 runs exactly at the same spot, only ever climbs to the 80 mark after much spirited driving

Unless of course I need a thermostat change as well :(

Just seen the mileage, is that 194000 miles??

And people say that they dont make Mercs like they used to :D :D

exactly the same spot ours sits in at this time of year - even when being driven quite hard. It will rise higher in the summer as the weather gets hotter or when you are sitting in prolonged traffic jams.

So, no stress that looks pretty normal and no BenzCommender, they don't make them like they used to - but then they don't cost as much as they used to 15 years ago an E class was the price of a house whereas a top of the range Ford Cortina was easily affordable. these days you can buy a Merc for the price of a Mondeo. When accountants start building cars as opposed to engineers it's seldom a good thing :(

Hi

Anyone what to buy a new unused thermostat and housing genuine MB, i thought she was running to cool but obviously from your replies not so. Mark.t look at the trip meter and the fuel guage much the same as yours?

All 300TD have this guage setup, yours looks different to mine though because you appear to have a 1 in front of your mileage display. :)

You maybe have a 1 in front of yours that you dont know about. :D :D :D :D :D

Seriously do all 300TD's run at this temp

The 1 is just around the corner when I get my car back from the dealer.

The temp looks spot on.

Your fuel consumption looks good too if the trip meter is reading since the last fill up, but your missing some Bling rings ooohh!

spot on that 230k

i hit 300 on the half way mark :bannana:as for miles it will hit 70000 in about 2 months

how full

230k how far past the full mark do you go when you fill up

Mark

I always try to get a pump that allows the car to lie over a bit to get as much in as possible, the needle just goes above the full mark and would not move until 80 miles or so have been covered.

I do this too but it's a real pain in a saloon because the tank is as high as the filler neck.

What's the actual consumption in mpg and what type of journeys do you do?

How many litres can you get into the tank?

Dieselman

The most i have got in the tank is ~72 litres, it is a fight for the last 5 litres or so, when i brim it and shake the body of the car by the roof rails it gurgles and drops down then i brim it again and repeat until she is full. Most of my miles are 40 mile commute each way to work with a bit of town driving at either end, 30 mile dual carraigeway cruise set at about 60.

Mpg varies depending what mood i am in but ranges from 32-37 one tank only it dropped to 28 mostly town and fast acceleration.

Best ever was 570miles from a tank although i was cutting it fine.

I once put 82.88 litres in, I guess I was a bit low.

Your journeys are better than mine but I have achieved 32.6 over 4 years and once 40.4 for a tankfull. :)

My temperature read like yours AFTER a thermostat change, so yours is fine.
Mine was reading about 50 degrees before it was changed. Made no difference to fuel economy though.

:D sorry 230k just had a vision of shaking the car at the petrol station by the roof rails ..... it reminded me of john cleese in fawlty towers with the red Austin and the tree branch
