E300TD Power Loss

I have an E300td estate that is suffering from loss of power. Accelleration is virtually non existant, although it does occasionally kick in (usually when cold). Power just fades away when going up hill and the top end has dissapeared completely, fastest I can get seldom above 90mph (better downhill!)

Local garage has had a look but no ideas. The car has done 215000 miles.

Any ideas anyone?

I have changed MAF with new Bosch unit. Made some difference but some problems still remain.

Now car will accellerate well for 5 to 10 minutes from start, very much back to old performance, with good accelleration and top speed, but then it seems to revert to the old problem...poor accelleration etc and revs seem to be limited to about 4000rpm, even when stopped and in neutral.

If I stop and turm off ignition for a few seconds, then start up, I can rev engine to red lne with no problem and performance again is good, but every time after a few minutes performance falls away again and no accelleration and revs limited.

Any thoughts?

Looks like its going into limp mode, best to get someone to read the ECU Codes that may give you a better idea of whats gone wrong. Where are you located?

split turbo pipes boost senser or a faulty maf is the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler dry ie no oil in pipes my 320 did sim to yours and the turo was leakeing oild and contam the maf and boost sensers wourth a look

Try the simple/cheap things first. My car had the same symptoms as yours.

Also, have you changed the inline fuel filter as well as the main fuel filter.

Hi harley Man. Yes sound like its time to plug it in to diagnostic machine. I am down in South Somerset. Know of any good local people?

Check as Steptoe recomment.
Tank strainer and also change the fuel filter if not done in awhile.
Hopefully you'll get back to 140 mph
