So I currently own a 2013 C220 CDi AMG Sport Plus Coupe. Honestly its a great car as an all rounder and its been 100% reliable in the 5 months that I have owned the car. However, I need to free up some cash so I am looking to sell this (currently advertised) and buy a cheaper W211 E280/E320 CDi Sport or CLK 320 CDi Sport. I currently do around 350-400 miles a week mainly motorway but often town work as well. I have found a couple of , what looks nice W211 E320 CDi Sports for around the £4500-£5000 mark. My worry is, are these cars being old going to need lots of money spent on maintenance. Am I going to buy something that will be breaking down an awful lot? Does mileage really matter on these cars? My C220 CDi averages about 50MPG on the motorway, what does the E320 CDi average? What issues does this engine suffer?

Last but not least does anyone know of a nice example of either car that is currently advertised?

How much is your car actually worth, though? How much cash do you envision that you'll free up?

Agreed mate that’s what I’m going to do
I paid top money for my 2007 E320 CDI Sport Estate and have put over 10k worth of parts on the first 2 years. Still needs bumpers refinished, new windscreen, new front shocks, and more.... It's a crazy car that I will most likely never afford to sell

10k …….are you serious ? What parts (or was it mainly Labour charges ?)

Only paid labour to diagnose an EGR leak, install brake flexis and flush, tyre changes, and several alignments. Everything else done myself.

Bought with fresh "major service" but previous owner was kinda scammed too.

Done 44k miles in 2 years. Sitting shy of 162000 now.

In order, what I remember more or less goes as:

Air filters. (dealer)
Complete PCV assembly. (dealer)
All charge seals. (dealer)
Engine and tranny mounts. (dealer)
Full Brembo brake service. (eBay)
Brake flexi lines. (dealer)
Transmission service. (dealer)
Oil change every ~6000 miles. (dealer)
Front FEBI suspension bushings and lower ball joints. (eBay)
Injector bolts and seals. (dealer)
Fuel filter. (dealer)
Rear shocks. (dealer)
High end oil cooler job with new cooler, flap motor, new left manifold, new bolts, all new gaskets obviously, etc. (dealer)
Upgrade swirl flap linkage. (X8R)
Injectors reconditioned locally; none of them worked. Waste of money.
3x new injectors. (dealer)
3x new injectors. (Bosch supplier)
Tail light from reversing in dark garage. (dealer)
Batwing/MAF assembly. (dealer)
O2 sensor. (Bosch supplier)
Intercooler. (eBay)
Boost pipes. (dealer)
Another couple sets of air filters. (dealer)
Belt tensioner. (dealer)
Chinese turbo actuator. (Amazon)
Broken AC compressor clutch: bypass with shorter belt. (Amazon)
Spare set of tyres from the parts car.
Rear subframe mounts and other couple bushings. (dealer)
Lemforder rear spring arm to hub joints. (eBay)
All drop links. (dealer)
Used accelerator pedal. (eBay)
Crank and Cam sensors. (dealer)
Atmospheric, boost and backpressure sensors. (dealer)
Odd seal and flange from charge circuit. (dealer)
Upper engine temp sensors. (dealer)
Air spring that had not been replaced yet. (dealer)
Jack pads. (dealer)
Two sets of front struts from breakers. (eBay)
ALL of the tailgate weather sealing components. (dealer)
Fuel lines that had not been replaced in the oil cooler job. (dealer)
Michelin PS5 tyres. (Local garage)
Reconditioned turbo actuator. (eBay)
Alternator regulator. (dealer)
Some minor service items.
Other parts bought already but pending replacement.

and not counting the many thousands in tools and spare parts for R&D between this and my "project" car (2008 E280 CDI Sport Estate)
