Car
No longer a Benz...
Just had a call from a mate who's rescued this from the scrappage scheme!!!

Its a demo + one owner car with full MB history owned by a millionaire who was chopping it in for a new RS6. The original receipt is with it for £53k

He paid 2K for it!!!! 200k miles... I'm speechless..........

Gets it in 2 weeks when the RS turns up.....

Result! Pity no electric seats though

great news it wasn't scrapped!
Agreed! It really saddens me to see so many good, usable cars going to the scrapper to be replaced by some Korean white good!....

True, in most cases, but I have seen some quite nice "classics" going to our local scrappy and it seems a shame...

I think you're being very optimistic (and kind) there - referring to them as good!!!!

Sorry, you're right, Korean cars could never be described as "good", even in white! :D

I can't tell from the pics but I bet it needs a heritage grill.

Yes, they do - unless the purchasing dealer steps in before the paperwork is signed and basically gives them 2K to bring the car into stock.

Most classics that were scrappaged ended up in shipping containers on their way abroad, I hear...

What's a good guesstimate of this car's true value?

I assume he has actually bought the car from this millionaire and not let it go through the scrappage scheme......

odd, do cars taken in as part of the scrappage scheme have to be scrapped
Yes, by law. Officially the car has to be scrapped but essentially the chassis can be crushed and paperwork filled out with all the other parts recycled back into the market. It's another old car off the road in the gubnmint's eyes.

What's a good guesstimate of this car's true value?

Well:Is hard to say as the mileage is not for a collector, but need to consider that only 7 rhd E36 S124 was made.To me the mileage is not a prob so i would say 7-10k if is clean and good condition

I guess full Scrappage lists should be available under FOI at some point - would be interesting (I suspect also heartbreaking) reading.

Nice motor, but privately would that really be worth that much more than 2K with that mileage? (I understand its rare)

I was directed to this thread by someone on Pistonheads... seems my shiny-headed friend has been spreading the news!

I couldn't stand by and watch this piece of history disappear; i understand it's one of only seven right hand drive E36 estates ever built. It's actually got well over 200,000 miles but has a full MB service history, having been purchased by the current owner when it was just 2 months old. He's used it every day for 15 years and so it's been maintained "correctly". Hoping to take delivery at the end of the month when he collects his new Audi.

I will NOT be selling it on, i intend to rectify any faults it has and then bring it out to meets and events (a Sunday Service at MB World for example). Just wish i had a glass garage to store it in.

Needless to say i'll be relying on the expertise on this forum to help me keep it in fine fettle!

My sister works for him, and he knows i'm a car nut and he asked what it was worth. I said it's a very small market, but probably £5k or thereabouts.
Didn't hear anything back from him for a while, then got a mail from my sister saying he's decided to part-ex it under the scrappage scheme!
So i mailed him direct and begged him to let me take it instead. I'd sell my left kidney before i'd let a car like this go to scrap.

No idea where i'm going to keep it though - i have no room for more stuff, i live in a tiny house and have two cars and three bikes already!
