I also concur. The OM642 is a fantastic engine, wonderfully smooth, refined and quiet.

As an update to this, I've had 3 calls from MB now to try and persuade me to part with more cash, but we're just too far apart and they're not budging (as much as I am) so I'll have to wait to save up some more pennies for the switch. I'm also kinda holding out to see if they cave!
In other news I finally got to test drive the car (they didn't have it on site when I first went) and wow! what a machine! The noise, the torque... What a lovely car... It was smiles from start to finish. I think they were hoping the smile on my face when I brought it back was going to be enough to put my hand deeper in my pocket there and then.
Fingers crossed I'll soon be able to 'officially' join the club!

Correct. In all honesty I wasn't sure how much I was expecting, it's just a bit too much for me. I may be being unrealistic, not sure...

Yep all personal choices.

I’d hardly call close to double the HP “a bit up” or say that 500Nm is “struggling” (only 20% less than a 350 CDi) without bellowing black smoke. I’ll take the added HP over the slightly greater (unneeded) torque any time.

I came across an expression yesterday. “Rolling Coal”. The picture says it all but they are mods to enable them to emit those huge clouds of smoke on demand. I’m thinking of getting my wife’s B-Class done to get revenge on cyclists that hold me up.

Correction to the above the HP is not "almost double” - (lack of coffee and doing mental arithmetic).. But it is about 50% more which is still substantial.
