Hello all,

Ive never owned a Merc but theres a well looked after E500 come up for sale local, The guy says its mint, Just wondering what peoples views are on these?

I do like my performance and to have fun on the twisties, so what are these things like? Are they easy to squeeze some more power from?

Cheers

If you want more power buy an E55k AMG and you can tune it to a considerable extent and there is an entire industry devoted to performance upgrades. The E500 is naturally aspirated so little to be gained from re-mapping and it is not a car to start tuning as no one does it. I've owned an E500, they are exceptionally nice cars and powerful enough, with sports II setting on the aromatic you can handle the corners very well. However, they are big cars and if you want fun on twisties I'd always go for something lighter. I thought of my estate as a mini S class estate - not a hot hatch. The AMGs have much more sports orientated set up.

What year is it? The M273 32v V8 has usefully more power than the M113 24v, but all you can really do to either is add headers and sports cams, the latter of which are between £1,500 and £2,600 ex. VAT.

As Charles says, the V8 Kompressors are the way to go if you really want to shift, with 50 to 100bhp added quite easily.

Think I remember you having a Yellow E46 M3, then a 335i... I came out of BMW although I have had MB before, takes the change to see what your missing ;)

E500 quick car, not sure you could chuck it around like a M3 though lol.
