E500 Limited

Agree with your points, luckily the Ceginus (AKA EVO II) wheels aren't a fortune to buy, from memory, about £200 a piece - that's brand new from an MB main dealer :)

I think they are closer to 250 plus the dreaded VAT. Michael on the 190 forum has just bought a new set for his Evo 1

I've got 5 of them :)

Does the number plate go with the car I wonder? Seems genuine enough but why the change of wheels and no "obligatory" engine picture?

These cars are really growing on me, I would absolutely love to build a W124 Estate to this spec, it would be such a sleeper.

A lovely motor! Pretty well spec'ed, too.

I'd be curious to find out whether a new gearbox has been fitted, too.
I agree, it would be nice to seem some 17" Evo II fitted to it.

Mudster, maybe you'd fancy this....

Take a LHD estate, obtain a M119 engine and box, find an ECU and wiring loom and donate 6hours work, job done :D:devil:

Nice example!

Ian - stop it! Posts like that will only get Mattc planning more projects, I think one is enough right now!!!!! :D  ;)

Yes that really does float my boat, I've found at least 3 cars in Japan I'd have bought already if the steering wheel wasn't on the wrong side, it is an absolute gold mine for quality original AMG's over there.

I think you have to modify the engine bay and transmission tunnel for the V8s though.

Isn't that what a big hammers for ;)

Plus brake and suspension upgrades?

Pretty sure Porsche tweaked the suspension on the 500E / E500.

Its certainly got what's essentially an SL rear end. Not forgetting the first DATA BUS type electronics!

It must be possible, somehow, to convert E500s to RHD. Granted it would take a fair bit of money, but the 500 engine was in RHD cars, and obviously '124s were available in RHD. Now that would be a one-off beast!

Cost aside, what would stop this conversion?

Don't think any 124s with V8s were RHD though (E420 or 500/60), would the steering box etc be in the way or something?

Not sure exactly why, but there must be a reason. Obviously with enough money, anything is possible :)

I believe there were steering box issues along with other minor problems.

The official line wasn't that is was not possible, but simply not financially viable for such a low volume specialist product.

I would happily build a RHD replica for my own use, but I just have a hang up dismantling an outstanding original like the one picture on which to do a conversion. Low milers that are that clean should be left alone....

Now if it had covered 250,000KM and was a little tatty then that's a different kettle of fish again.
