E500 Limited

Many Mods Required.

That doesn't include modifications to the exhaust system, the rear end, suspension and brakes. If it was an easy engine swap there would be lots of them around I'm sure.:cool:
 
Last time I spoke to Ian he seemed to think that the steering box could be ditched in favour of a rack and pinion system from another Merc (W210?).
Would be a great project.
 
I think you have to modify the engine bay and transmission tunnel for the V8s though.

Pretty sure Porsche tweaked the suspension on the 500E / E500.

That fits. My original post on this subject was slightly tongue in cheek. It is possible however lots of fettling is required. Note to self, must work this out properly
 
To those interested...I just spoke to the owner of the car...

He said...its done 320,000km, new engine and reconditioned gearbox in 2002, few scratches around bodywork (nothing serious) with rust spot at ariel mast and rear light...Good condition throughout...very quick etc etc.

Its a german spec, original E500 Limited and I think its two owners since it came to the UK. The owner is currently away until Sunday so I think viewing will be difficult.

If you see the photos, the drivers seat looks very worn and has even changed colour. The rims are NOT original. The door sills, birdseye wood trim and seat colours link this vehicle to being an original E500 Limited.

The registration date is November 1994. The Climate blows ice cold. He said all toys work as they should. The headlights are E500 original (most get changed to the normal W124 ones).

It would be nice to have the VIN to be able to find out the original options and delivery information of the car...Can anyone obtain this from the reg? M500 DTM?

Ironically the special seat trim for the E500 is known to be of poorer quality and prone to wear in comparison to the original 500E seats. go figure.:confused:

I personally think the E500 Limited interior is quite ugly compared to the original E500/500E sportline interior...

I thought it was a reasonable price considering it was a LTD edition. If it was on 50k less miles i would have had a bid.
 
But 320,000km, part history, rebuilt parts, some rust and tired interior?? Car doesnt have standard alloys either...

Rather pay a little more, buy a normal 500E and get something you wont have to plough a tonne of money onto...

But, recently, the E500's have risen in price, so I guess it might be a good buy. Would be nice to see it restored to its former glory - it would be beautiful!
 
I agree with 500E, it looks pretty Tired to me too, Although I would say £6000 is not a bad price, maybe because I got an E500 Ltd done 315000kms and I paid a lot more than that for it, However, there are Cars, and Good Cars (I hope)

May not even have gone.........buyer with one transaction in the past 3 years comes out of the woodwork to buy a 6k Merc.........could happen, but a little odd perhaps. Maybe he was waiting for a Ltd to come up ?:crazy:
 
Plus the fact that there were only 500 of these made, so they will become more Rare as the time goes by...
