Am I right in assuming that am E55k standard exhaust consists of the following

Headers
Downpipes Inc Primary Cats
Middle Silence (containing secondary cat - is this correct?)
Exhaust pipes
Rear silencers

Assuming I'm right on the above. I've already done primary cat delete when Eurocharged shorty headers fitted and I need to leave the secondary cats in place. Could I go to 200 cell sports cats and pass emissions?

Final port of call for a little more noise is backboxes? Want to be able to keep the factory tips so Eisenmann off the cards. Does MSL fabricate backboxes? Looked but not found C63 ones. Any other alternatives anyone could suggest any alternatives. Looks like Suoersprint do backboxes that will work with standard tips and the OEM centre box

All help greatly appreciated!

yes that's correct, I left the secondary's as I also had kleemans which took out the primaries, if you want a bit more noise, consider fitting C63 rear boxes.

Alps are what generation C63?

All the W204 range. The W205 is an unknown.
You could include the CLS55 and 63 along with the W211 E63 back boxes too. Just so difficult to find 2nd hand.

Could you not remove the centre resonator and fit an 'x pipe'? I did this to my CLS and with the sec cats (I know you need to leave yours in place) removed it was a perfect sound.

Agree with Abb, or for a bit more noise you could go the cheaper route and have straight pipes instead.....

Eisenmann boxes are the only back boxes that will give you and those within 3 miles of you, the true pleasure of quality M113K sound. You cannot describe or reproduce it, you have to own Eisenmenn and share the pleasure. The tips look almost no different to the standard ones (slightly less oval).

Your exhaust looks like this front to back: manifolds, cats 1, cats 2, resonator, back boxes. Ricky_S on here has sport cats on his and he passes MOT every time (he's an honest gent, no friendly MOT station will do for him). Personally, I would go with headers, sport cats, X-pipe and OEM back boxes. Or Eisnemann if you can find them.

Cheers guys. I see Super Sprint do a sports cats, resonator and backboxes solution. Anyone have any experience?

^ Thats the beauties. Tips look rough but should clean up nicely.
Just got to cut off the hangers and weld on new ones in place.

View attachment 73422 My E55 has Eurocharged headers, sports cats, X pipe and sports rear boxes of unknown type as they were fitted by the previous owner..anyone recognise them?

Sounds pretty awesome imho...

Can you discern the type of sports cat? Anyone else got experience of good options?

Thanks

Nick

I bought Supersprint rear boxes for my old ML55 back in the day. Honestly, there was no difference to the standard OEM sound at all. So I would give them a miss unless you can hear them in the flesh and actually like what you hear.

Thanks Alex.

Getting clear in my head I will do sports cats and C63 backboxes first. See how that goes and then add X pipe but I'm reluctant to lose the middle resonator as I don't want the dreaded drone on the motorway

You will have a drone if you comlpetely remove the resonator or back boxes. Replacing the former with an X-pipe is perfectly fine. In fact, the resonator is actually an H-pipe when you open it up.

Thanks Alex. Any thoughts on sourcing sports cats?
