Bought 507 - What next?

Hi all,

Just acquired a 507 version of the C63 AMG.

The body is perfect and seems to run perfectly.
However, I am still taking into Mercedes Guildford for a full checkover and diagnostics and hope to put right anything that is amiss.
The last service in July mentioned rockers and brakes so I might be looking at 2k of work.
They told me it needs the steering rack recal thing too.

Whilst there or otherwise, I seek to get the car to the peak it can be as I aim to have this for a long time.
So far, am loving it, by the way. Am new to Mercedes and am VERY impressed. Wow, what a car!

Questions:
  1. What general upgrades are prudent to maximise the car's potential? Engine parts, etc
  2. What should I replace why Merc is looking at it to ensure longevity? e.g. bushes, etc
  3. Is there a way to unplug a part which keeps the valve open. Sounds epic on acceleration but a bit quiet on normal idle and low speeds.
  4. What the best pads to get - assuming the ones Merc will suggest will be sub-optimum?
  5. What is the perfect fuel for the car? I have both a Shell and BP near me.
  6. How do I find out what the car out of the factory with, as standard?
  7. I doubt the car has an LSD - is it really worth adding restrospectively for fast road driving. I will NOT take the car on the track.
  8. Will Google Maps/Wave on my Android come up on the car's screen? So far, I can get my bluetooth music to play but am using the car's own Sat Nav.
  9. Where can I get black badges to replace the side 6.3 badges and the AMG and 6.3 badges on the boot? I'll leave the silver rim on the wheels and the silver exhaust tips :)
  10. What does the little RS mean on the circular mode knob?
Cheers, much appreciated.
Welcome to the group Evotion. I'm just down the road from you in Walton with a PPP Estate which has a remap and secondary cat delete. Happy to meet up so you can have a listen or if you fancy going for a spirited
drive somewhere.

I've used Guildford Mercedes for servicing before and they've always seemed well priced for a dealership. I've been using TM Motors in West Molesey for the last few years and they're fantastic - well priced and really know their stuff. I had the same aircon flashing light as you, and they replaced a few seals for the fraction of the cost of a new condenser (which is what other garages wanted to replace).

The parking sensors only beep when you're very close, they don't beep further out with increasing intensity like most other cars do. You have to use the visual aid and if you look over your shoulder in the headlining is the rear one.

If there's a fault it'll long beep when putting it into reverse and four of the lights will come on and stay on.
You should also be able to see the rear parking sensor lights in your rear view mirror, so if that's set up correctly, no need to turn round to look at the lights.

I have seen some YouTube about some jiggery pokery you can do to turn the beep on so it works with a sound the same as all the other parking sensors on every other car. I can't remember if it's in the COMAND engineering menu, or needs to be accessed via STAR official Mercedes diagnostics.

I'm happy with the lights and beep only when very very close, so I've not investigated further.

In the fullest of disclosure, I have a dieseasel Merc, so I feel a bit cheeky commenting on a 'proper' Merc (V8) thread ☺️

I am actually in Walton, on Rydens Road. Would be great to meet up and listen to the car - though I fear it may cost me dear :p
Definitely will not remap it. Fast enough as it is!

I'll see what Mercedes say then and go from there. That is one of the things I would NOT ask them to do but happy for them to diagnose it.

PLease tell me that there actually is a USB port in the car. I cannot find it anywhere. :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

The cup holders?

Also, do those arm rests actually come up/move?
I tried but didnt want to force them.

If the storage compartment between the seats is anything like my 2014 registered E63, the usb port is inside, on the rear end of the main compartment. There should be a button on each side which releases the lids on the storage box.

Oh, bloody tell. haha. Too me about 20 seconds. They are slightly underneath - two compartments. ha.
I was needing the USB charger on my drive home.
Excellent. So funny being a noob. All part of the experience. I keep finding new things! :D

The screen is pretty naff but actually, with that rotator, works really well in terms of function. Certainly prefer it to a touch screen. Not owned a BMW either so this is new to me.
I'd love an upgraded screen but I have seen that bolt on one and looks a bif naff so I will live wih it.

Ah, another thing... The A/C button flashes on and off red when pressed but never looks or stays on. Is that normal?

I was out in the cold and it did not steam up ever.
I had it on ZONE with the fan on level 2.
If you're A/C needs re-gassing (which the flashing light would suggest it does) then my money will be on all of it escaping through a holed condenser. They are usually placed, right in the firing line, low down and directly in front of the radiator.

ref petrol, I would go Esso super as it contains no ethanol so more power.
Unless you live in or visit Devon, Cornwall, North Wales, North England or Scotland because then its e5 lol

He lives in Weybridge; but it's worth mentioning to those that aren't familiar with the fact that the local regional refineries drive the availability of ethanol free Super. TBH E5 isn't overly punitive but for my money, since ESSO is (almost) the same cost, they'll get my business.

Wasn't trying to be smart, I didn't know esso did super without ethanol so I looked it up on their website and saw it was region/supply specific 👍
