E55 Exhaust System

So have the holes left by cutting the inner pipes off been blanked ..... doesn't look like it .....

Bet the inner tailpipes (with AMG tips) were eBayed separately.

I have the quad system on my car. Bought it from Germany for around £600 (not £1000 as suggested). There are different part numbers for the different W211 models, and the diameter of the exhaust system on petrol and a diesel cars differs.

If you are going to do a job, you might as well do it properly - not use a butchered system imho...

Original E55 AMG has 2 exits on each side, not 1.

Thats what it says .... the inner ones have been cut off ....

You are talking about the "accessory" AMG exhaust mufflers, not the E55 specific system. It is often cheaper to buy the AMG system (as a replacement item from the stealership!) and have a sleeve/adaptor made up to fit it :)

Now that really is the genuine article! Won't work on diesels though, er prolly.

That's just splitting hairs imho. Cosmetically, there is absolutely no difference, between the "accessory" AMG mufflers and E55 ones (I've seen them side by side at a dealership) They are all manufactured by Sebring and it's impossible to tell the difference. The back boxes are even identical in dimensions. It's just that you get the a cat-back system rather than the full item for the "accessory". Personally I see zero benefit is putting an E55 system on anything other than an E55.

Edit:

Here is a picture of one of my back boxes as it arrived, together with the some of the documentation. You do actually need to make use of a section of the exhaust beyond the cat. There appears to be a common part number for all W211's - B66036142, but the is a further code to distinguish the engine size and body type. I think the code for mine is something like A2114920009, which should be unique for a 6 cylinder estate (and probably a diesel engine).
