i'm after a cheap plate with maybe my initials just to take the age off the car.

there are some bargains to be had in ebay.

just wondering what forms i should make sure the plates come with, if there is anything else to watch for, and any DVLA registration costs.

thank you

The best way to buy a plate is on the Retention Certificate... There are no more additional costs needed... You simply go to your local DVLA office and get it assigned to your vehicle... Also have a look on Pistonheads Classifieds....

If you buy a plate on a retention document the grantee (the person selling it/named on the document ) must sign it and send it back to DVLA to have your name added as the nominee before you can assign it to your vehicle. There is a £25 for this and the seller may charge this extra over and above the cost of the number.

thanks, but a bit confused between the responses.

is there a difference between a certificate and a document?

If the plate is already on a retention certificate / document then as already said, to have your name on is a cost of £25. You must however get the plate / number assigned to a vehicle within 12 months (at NO cost) If you keep the certificate past 12 months from date of issue you have to pay a fee for another 12 months but if it is on the vehicle you pay nothing ever again unless you want to transfer / keep the plate.

What are your initials ? I have two plates going cheap....

initials... RAL.

Let me know waht letters are in your plates.

Loads on the DVLA website

Priced from £250.00

There are 256 RAL plates on DVLA from £250 up to £899 all include VAT and £80 assignment fee.
