ecu Re-mapping

Hi everyone.
I have a c230k sport and am thinking of having the ecu re-mapped to a performance map, still within engine tolerance (not touching the rev limiter) ect, in fact not touching the ecu at all, but through the obd port. Ive been informed that it will give me a 25% to 30% increase on my bhp, yes you heard right 25% not 25bhp that should take me up to around 235/250bhp.
Wether this is true i will let you know, has anyone out there heard of such a gain from ecu re-mapping.

I look forward to all replies

Welcome to the forum.

Moving this thread to the engine section.

You will find much discussion about this on the forum - please try using the search function. Don't think we have anybody here with a chipped C230K though.

As Sym says, try a search, there is a lot of discussion on a similar topic.

Is this a W202 or W203 C-Class?

IMO - You won't get an increase like that on a w202 and unless on a w203, the ECU has a way of directly controlling boost, you won't on a w203 either.

As the kompressor is mechanical - the ecu only engages and disengages the supercharger via a electronic clutch. Hence boost cannot be increased by a chip. Therefore your chipping potential is pretty much the equivalent of chipping a normally aspirated engine, not comparable to a turbo car and hence I would say 25% is totally unachievable.

But please prove me wrong!

Personally I really really doubt 25% power increase is possible by ECU mapping alone, it would easily be possible by pulley, supercharger and mechanical changes though........at a price!
You can get just a pulley kit for around the £300 mark, which is cheaper than some chip-tuning. Even if you just push the boost up by a tiny amount it will make a big difference, and because the blower is running almost from tickover you will feel it throughout the rev-range, we're talking about real performance mods here, not altering data on a chip ;)

Many thanks 4 the info i`m not bothered with top end speed, but torque 4 quicker overtaking ect. The guy said if i am not happy with the increase in performance (he is so sure that i will be) bring it back within 7 days and he will re-map the old info back and refund the charge!......now u can`t grumble with that????
PS what is the normal charge 4 this kind of work anyway as i have nothing to compere with?
Best Regards

Who are you using mate?

I'm interested in getting my E200K done but only if it can be done through the port without the need for replacing the chip.

I've been quoted £350ish with Upsolute, how much are you looking at?

I`m using http://angeltuning.co.uk and having it done next week, I`ll let you know what i think, but for now have a butcher at their web site.

Out of interest does the C230K use the same engine as the W203 C180/200K? The tech specs say that the engines are all 1796cc - can my 143 BHP C180K be remapped to give the 189BHP of the C230K? I would guess that other mods would also be required such as changes to pulleys for the supercharger etc....?

There was a minor facelift during 2003, older 2000-2002 W203 models are not like the 2003 engines.
