I can understand people getting sick of DPF faults but I’d be pretty annoyed if I bought a car and the previous owner had gutted the DPF. Same with AdBlue and EGR deletes. Getting these things reinstated is a nightmare.

Not a bad approach, BUT I would hazard a guess that the majority of owners who gut the DPF after having DPF issues, do so because replacing the PDF and/or sensors etc is prohibitively expensive for them. When taken in this context, any follow-up action that require considerable expense is probably a non-starter.....

He wants good software as it's been done , a competent remapper needs to work from his original file rather than the bodged remapped file so he needs the original software file put back on .

Have a DPF and EGR refitted, check on Star for correct software settings.
Scrap the car and start again

Dpf cleaning is a money making enterprise as it rarely involves getting to the root cause.
Get root cause sorted then clean if necessary , trouble is it's a bolt on flawed idea with far too many prerequisites .

So buy a petrol car or accept a diesel with a DPF and EGR.The worry is doing it all again and then having the same issues
As asked, why do it in the first place? I Why not have the initial fault fixed?

It's not as simple as that , it's called the dpf Merry-go-round and I've seen people close to breakdown !
