Egr , boost, dpf , help!

It's not as simple as that , it's called the dpf Merry-go-round and I've seen people close to breakdown !

So it's not surprising people turn to the dark side .
Yet still have no working vehicle!

They can work otherwise the option would die , I got told by someone about a person that had worked for over 40 years on an army base repairing army vehicles of all types and had been awarded by top brass for developing safety systems .

Upon their first dpf diesel car they sat down and studied the system , then chose to remove the dpf ( gut ) and egr ( software ) on a perfectly working low mileage car !!

Dpf cleaning is a money making enterprise as it rarely involves getting to the root cause.

Get root cause sorted then clean if necessary , trouble is it's a bolt on flawed idea with far too many prerequisites .

Ollie at PCS says he's cleaning PDFs rather than having them replaced?

Personally, I find this story hard to believe. 40 years in the army working on military vehicles, and the first thing he does in civvy street is an illegal modification to his own car....? Unlikely, is my opinion. Any ex-squaddies on here?

So you're calling me out as a liar ?

Reliable source , it's s true believe me , never was never would set out to deceive .

I can understand in a way , if something is analysed by someone with technical knowledge and deemed to be trouble either mechanical and or / financially and they chose to remove prior to any future issue .

Not at all. You said:

I believe you when you say that this is the story you were told. But I think it's unlikely to be true. Personal opinion.
Precisely.

Nothing specific just a recollection of someone told me etc etc.

A completely overblown and uncalled for reaction to a perfectly reasonable question.

Then again as we have seen on the Forum many times before how so many are brave behind the keyboard.

An infidel....

You forget I have a decades old automotive career , up to you buddy what you want to believe.

As I get older in every aspect of life the 180° options increase the further away from formal education , just people and their particular education / belief systems .

Those who know , know , those who don't !

Automotive is like everything , it isn't what you think it is sometimes , is a 225 tyre 225mm ?

1) OP, go back to back street entrepreneur who removed the DPF, hope they still have it and get it refitted and your remapped back to original.

2) Go to a decent garage and get the underlying problem solved,

3) If above not possible be ready for instant MOT failure, possible fine (new bill passed earlier this year) and the expense to rectify.

These garages cutting out DPF are incompetent, telling unwary customers its the solution, yet leaving the customer screwed down the line.

4) As to EGR, these can be taken out and cleaned. They coke up, take it our, brush out as much carbon as poss, mr muscle or carb cleaner, it will be good as new.

5) Good luck, be cool.
