Dont know if my car has one or not (most likely does I just dont know what im looking for) But can someone tell me if it has and where it is please, I have been told its a possible cause for my engine making strange chugging noises when laboured in a high gear going up hills or thrashed. Its ok when driving normal tho.The sound seems to come from the front end of the car around the where the downpipes are.

All I know is that it only causes problems when it sticks open, and that is mainly known on the VW 1.9 TDi engines....

Don't know if they're fitted to petrol engines, I thought there was a different type of emissions/warm up system on those?

AFAIK your car doesn't use EGR.

EGR is used as a crude method of reducing NOX. NOX is produced in quantity when the mixture is very lean so has a high oxygen content, as in a diesel at idle.

All indirect petrol engines maintain a fairly constant mixture strength so don't generate much NOX. Direct injection petrols are a whole different story!!!!!!!!!!!
