elastic band effect

the auto box on my 210 300td has penchant for slow or un smooth gear changes usually when cold but not all the time, also at higher speeds wont change up or down but only intermitent any advice would be grateful.

Check the fluid to start with, the level and the colour... it should be red, if its gone brown it needs changing.

It could be old ATF sticking the valves or maybe the MAF...
Any loss of power or occasional banging of gears on change?
