ELCODE Key problem

hi guys,

1998 C220 Diesel, got into start car this morning and ignition lights as normal on key turn but just wont let the engine turn over.

tried spare key (phew, i have one!) and its fine...

Had the same issue on an E300 a while back but just used the spare and forgot about it..

Do i need a new key or can it just be programmed up again?

i fear the next time this happens on another car, i wont have a spare key...
