Electronic handbrake

Are there any known issues with the electronic parking/handbrake (2001 CL55 AMG), mine doesn't seem to work at all when pulled, even after several attempts! (it's only recently had a new MOT, I don't generally use the handbrake, so I haven't noticed this until today).

Although, it has a couple of times, just randomly 'bonged' on when I start the car and pull away and needed releasing.

Is this a sensor/fuse/easy fix situation???
