Evening chaps-Well, I went for the Zoostorm PC from Ebuyer. Besides delivery issues I'm very pleased with it.
Anyway, back to business: I have BT internet and therefore use BT Yahoo for my email. When launching Outlook Express on my old machine or Windows Live Mail on my new machine the username and password box pops up. As it's prefilled I click OK and then it returns. I then get an error saying an incorrect password was entered and I can't get my mail. I have deleted the prefilled password and re-entered it to no avail. If I log in via webmail I can access my mail no problem. Also, even more bizarre, once I have logged in via webmail I then use Outlook Express or Windows Live Mail, and it goes through ok and I can get my email. It normally then takes approx 20-30mins before I encounter the same problem. It can't be my PC or mail client as I have used two different clients and two different PCs. I have been on the phone to BT for an hour todya and the lady checked all my settings and all appeared fine. I'm totally stumped. What does the panel think?

Thanks-Where would I find that?

Depends on what email/browser you are using but will usually be under - Tools - Settings or Options or Internet.

You should then see a tick box asking if password is required (or not).

Is there any reason why you would want to open your email in Windows Mail?

I would save yourself the pain and just use the web browser version...

John it makes no difference which email client I use. It's deffo a server problem but BT say its because I have email on my iPhone. They say the sever rejects the password for security as it sees my mail being checked by two different devices???? So I turned off email on my iPhone and guess what? Same problem.

I mean is there any reason why you would want to use Outlook Express or Windows Mail - why not only check your email using the Yahoo web site instead and just forget about the two mail clients?

With regards to the issue, it sounds like a mis-configuration issue in your SMTP settings - possibly the wrong password? Try typing it out first to ensure it is correct and then pasting that in.

With regard to BT not requiring a password, the last time I had to use BT to send our mail through (don't ask), they told me you cannot send email through BT without authentication now (granted this was BT support).

I don't use it so I can't confirm or deny - I've had a Yahoo account since 1996 and have not used anything else but web browsers to get my email...

Last time I used Outlook Express was to browse newsgroups in c1995 to download porn - that's how you had to do it then... :D
