Red paint problem, Mercedes not accepting responsibility

To my knowledge, Hyacinth Red has never been affected by micro blistering.
AFAIK, you’re right Roger.

FWIW, it was a toss-up between the Diamond White E63 that I bought and a Hyacinth Red one. I would have preferred the red one which had essentially the same spec but with porcelain Designo interior, but the dealer (Marshall Group) was a complete ar$e, so I bought the white one - with the common-or-garden black coal-hole upholstery from a Sytner dealership instead.

It’s Fire Opal Red and Mars Red - the solid reds - that were problematic.

So when I was specifying my SL from the factory. Hyacinth Red was pulled off of my factory specification because they had issues with it. They effectively told me that I would have my order paused indefinitely if I insisted on keeping it. So it sounds like the pause they had solved that problem. I have no idea how long it was unavailable. I love that colour.

Standard MB fob off. Is the car Fire Opal Red, if so read the numerous posts on this issue on the forum. Over 2500 cars are involved. If FOR is involved only a bare metal respray appears to solve the problem and the cost will be eyewatering. Were there no signs of paint defects when you looked at the car originally?
I had a c220 Fire Opal red. Was ok for the first few months then the bonnet, rear and side panels started to bubble/blister badly. Read up about this issue which seems to be a common problem between 2012 and 2015. Took it to local merc dealer who knew about this problem. Put me on a very long waiting list for it to be rectified. They said the left side had already been re painted and they would not do that side. Really fought with them saying I want it all done. They did it, with reluctance. It was a faulty lacquer in the paint. Nothing to do with service history etc. Just the year or producing colour.

Go at this another way then Talk to the guys that did the ceranic coating ...And MB wont listen to you after ceramic coating was done .

The thread is from April 2024 but I've done this ie found a subject I'm interested in and posted on it not noticing when the last post was.

^ This.

And my dealer (part of the Inchcape group) now emails you a soft copy of the Digital Service Record - no paper copy at all.
Wonder what happens if you’re an elderly person ( like my mother in law , and my own late mother ) who has never had a computer nor an email address ?

There are still people who fall into that category .

If you cant get this fixed .At the last resort -Park your car on the garrage forecourt , and let future buyers see the finish on your car .
They might object to that , but as long as there are no parking restrictions outside , people have been known to park problem cars outside dealerships with large signs in the windows detailing issues .

The DSB will exist whether the owner ever views it or not. You receive a printed copy too, or you if the dealer doesn’t provide it then you can ask for it. Also, you can buy a service book for the dealer/garage to stamp too.

As above. MB used to give me a print out of the DSB after each service, and more recently by email.

First comment - FOR is the UK colour, Mars Red the USA colour. Second, the DSB is useless - I have it for my SLK and cannot read it, the print is so small and faint as well as being incomplete. The paint blistering problem with FOR is well known and documented, cost MB a fortune supplying rental cars when owner's cars (often close to new) were in for respray. I happen to have a FOR SLK2008, paintwork is fine but there is nothing in the DSR or the few paper invoices I have that show whether or not it had a respray, wish I could find out but original supplying dealer (MB North Wales) has not responded to enquiry. Instead the bottom front corners of both front wings are starting to blister, but as my car does not have a full MB service history it's my problem. I know from experience with my S203 that MB will wriggle light crazy about paintwork problems - the 203 had full MB history and paint bubbles along the bottom of the offside doors. MB offered a 10% contribution to the respray cost so told to go forth and multiply!

You all forget, ceramic was used on the original paint And MB wuill pull that out of the bag , and use it against you to get out of this claim ...
