EML on and error code P00078 being picked up

All I can say is help!

Just wanted to ask for a bit of advice on the P0078 Exhaust Valve Control Solenoid Circuit (Bank 1) code that’s being picked up and and turned my EML on.

Is this something that is easily fixable or am I looking to sell a kidney to get this sorted. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as always.

W204 C180k Automatic Petrol 88.5k Miles on the clock.

Should have just sold the car months ago ...

Hi. I have the same problem on a W204 C200 Kompressor, in fact the same engine as yours. Have you solved the problem? If yes, please tell me what was the problem.

Hi so after doing some under the hood investigation and narrowing out potiential causes i found there was a oil leak from the cam magnets which are at the front of the engine. It was leaking into the leads which was causing a loss of signal and hence throwing up an error message. The magnets need changing along with the lead and once I had that done it’s been error free. Hope it helps you out

Hi Vabenzi. Thanks a lot. Exactly the same problem! Yesterday I only cleaned the conctor, erased the error and the engine error light still off. I have ordered the two magnets to change them. The leak was on the exhaust side but I think I will change both. Did you change the whole lead? I mean, all the engine lead? I think we can buy a 20cm long lead to plug between the magnets and the general engine lead hardness to avoid oil to get from the magnets to the ECU.
