Not a Merc but the Rover.

A couple of days ago I was travelling at 70mph on a dual carriageway when the oil light came on. There was no where to pull over so I slowed down and carried on for another mile or so to make it into the services. 5 seconds after the oil light had come on I get a ABS and battery warning.

I limp into the services and open the bonnet to find this cap loose and the seal perished away :dk:

ok, so I've lost oil so the light came on and the oil covered the alternator so I got a battery warning light. I checked the oil and judging by the amount underneath and all over the wheel and down the side of the car I'd lost quite a lot. I then tightened the cap up borrowing a set of grips from a plumber on the forecourt and put back in 5 litres before it showed on the dip stick!!

It now sounds like this

The C32 replacement arrives in a week or two and I don't want to spend a penny on this pile of poop so what's the knocking noise and is this car likely to last another 500 miles before giving up? It drives the same although it now takes a while to start.

Oops. That's not good, but it may keep going OK.

That cap is the oil filter so you lost oil pressure as well as oil quantity.

Oh, fcuk! I'm afraid that bearings knocking, more than likely big ends. How long it lasts is anybodies guess, but not too long I'd reckon

No chance of a £99 Snetterton track day in it then :D

The wife will be using it and don't fancy hiring a car for a week or two. Will it just die or give some sort of warning?

I do love my wife :D she's only nipping here and there locally in it not hundreds of miles a day.

I once had a Vauxhall Viva break the crankshaft after a spirited drive to Brighton and back, but yours will probably be ok as long as she doesn't thrash it.

Your noise might be as simple as the camshaft worn out so the follower knocks.

Any chance of another video on the last day... ;)

I seem to remember the Top Gear boys doing a special with three cheap (old) supercars and Jeremy's Lambo, I think it was, sounded like that before the engine gave out and fired bits of engine over May's car.

It just kept going!!

Well, we buy any car really do buy any car !!!

£303 less the £49 admin fee :bannana:

Blue Rover 75 estate reg number BL52 LPN. I took it to the Camberley branch.

I asked what they did with all the vehicles and he said they go straight to auction. After everything was signed I asked are you really going to make anything on that?

Probably not was the reply :)

Coming through on Wednesday.....blue 75 Club 2.0 diesel estate.

Just found it on the BCA site
They need to put some diesel in it or they will be pushing it around....it runs out when it gets to a quarter of a tank and it looks like its just below.

And they would of saved a lot of time on the condition report if they had listed panels that are not damaged :)

BMW M47 engine in that? Engine parts sell very well on ebay from those engines.
Turbo £200, high pressure fuel pump £200, Injectors £240, fuel rail pressure sensor £40. They'll all sell within a week on eBay.

Yes it has the BMW engine although not sure if its the M47.

Someone should do alright out of it then. After someone offered me £130 scrap for it I thought parts must be worth more but it was stuck 100 miles away from me in Guildford and didn't want to risk driving it home.
