Engine light/ No drive

Good evening folks,

Car is a clk 270cdi '04 plate

I have had this happen twice now,

I went to "boot" the car and it loses drive, i moved it into neutral and coasted it to a layby when i then put it back into drive ( did not turn engine off ) and the car "seemed" fine but the engine light has come on.

Any clues??

Sounds like the car is in limp mode. Now the engine light is on, you need the codes read to find the fault. Probably a MAF sensor going by similar faults like this.

I dont believe the car is going into limp mode as it seems to go through all the gears fine and no affect on speed/power performance, ( unless i am mistaken on what limp mode is? )

You may well be correct. I was making an uneducated guess

Getting the fault code(s) read should make things much clearer.

Small update got these codes

P220B The speed of Y3/6n2 or Y3/6n3 is too high


P2500 The transmission has an impermissible transmission ratio

^^ from the list that chrisA has put on here

Can anyone translate this to english please.

Thats the speed sensor housed within the gearbox

Thats what i thought, I just wanted reassurance, I'm guessing that it needs one of them conductor plate things??
