On my W209 the engine managment light has come on the dash.

there is no noticable fault and the car is driving normal.

Under load it sounds fine and is not missing.

any suggestions ?

Let me just get out my crystal ball... just kidding. Star is the only way.

It gets too many miles around the town and I was thinking a good blast on the motorway might be the answer.

But being cautious I think the star treatment will be the better option.

I think I will get it to a local independent.

Doesn't work with MBs. If you're lucky it may disappear for a few days and it'll come back.

Hi Guys .

The car needed petrol so filled up with Super unleaded and after a couple of minutes the light went out.

The wife tells me she uses ordinary unleaded from morrisons.

She has now been given instructions what to use which is what I put in and we will see if thats the problem.

I did do a bit of high revving and kicked it down a few times as well.

Glad it looks like it is something minor.

I doubt the super unleaded is the answer(v6 petrol mb's run perfectly normal on standard unleaded),for peace of mind i would as others have already sugested get the car plugged into star to see what fault codes are present if the eml comes back on(my guess is a dodgy sensor but it is only a guess!)

Engine management light

Hi All, I am a newby to the MB Club and only joined about 2 months ago after buying my first MERC(C180 Kompressor SPORT 2006) 3 months ago. I was very happy after owning a people carrier for a few years, the MERC was heaven. About 3 weeks ago the same happened to my beloved MERC, engine management light came on. Took it to my local garage that I have used for years. Diagnostic was done and showed 3 or 4 codes . I have since replaced plugs, spark plug seals, coil packs and numerous diagnostics, and £300 later, light still on.Local garage were stumped. I decided to contact the steelership directly ,hoping for some help as the final code had something to do with "fuel emissions or fuel mixture to rich". They wanted to charge me another £95 for diagnostic before any advise or help. I read all the replies and decided to purchase a can of "ecotek power boost" to try as a last resort. Rather spend £24 than £95 for the steelership. I decide to start with the basics, drove car until empty and add £30 of SHELL V-POWER petrol. I went to purchase the Power boost today, as step two of the basic's, clean out the engine. It was about a 50 mile round trip(gave it a bit of a welly) to the spare shop to collect the Power boost. On the way home, wife wanted to stop for some last minute shopping. Got back to the car, and lone behold !!! ENGINE management light has gone out !
This should be a lesson to me not to use supermarket petrol(ASDA) and stick to the good stuff! I am still going to do the Power Boost tomorrow as I have read some good stuff about the product. I know this might most possible not resolve all the issues for every one, but I wanted to share this as it has opened my eyes and possibly stopped me from wasting any more cash.Hopefully could help others with the same problem as it could be as simple as using the correct fuel. Very happy MERC owner again !!!!

Hi Bigjacques1

I agree with you it might not be the answer to everyones problem but there is no sign of the light on mine.

Sorry I rather pay the extra on fuel athan hundreds of pounds to try and cure a problem that might be down to my own (or the wifes) cheap skate actions. At leat I know its got the best it can have in it.

On a W203 petrol ,a common cause for the Engine Light to come on is a Split Air Flow Pipe below the Air Filter Box.
Not the easiest to get at, about £15 for the pipe or about £80 for a Specialist to fix including Parts/Labour.

Hi Aletank, thanks for the info,I did try to have a look at the pipe you have mentioned for the possible split pipe, and as you say,not the easiest to get to.Can you give me any pointers, advise how to get to the pope?will be much appreciated.
Regards

Sorry ALETANK,I meant how to get to the pipe!my spelling mistake!

I tried just like you but couldn't get to it, I took it my Specialist, MB-Tec of Warrington in the end, I think it was £80 all in.
I had no running problems, just that the light came on.

The light came on again so I took it in for diagnostic.

It showed the secondary actuating air injection pump was not working and the fault lay with a blown relay which they fixed. Should it happen again they will replace the pump.

I have extended warranty who are going to pay £63 of the £109 bill

Hi GH3382
Glad you got it sorted, unfortunately for me,light in my car also back on again, not happy, looks like I will have to visit the "stealership" as I am now giving up,sure it is going to cost a few squid !

What extended warranty do you have if I may ask as I also have the extended warranty and was wondering If that will cover my costs aswell.

bj,
have you not got a decent indy near to you rather than main dealer?

Joecash

I thought the local guy I used for the last few years were good but even he is stumped or dont know and after spending £300 with no results,I am desperate. If anyone know of any good one in Newcastle Upon tyne, please let me know!
