engine management light on

Hi Pendragon

I checked the website and states they are now closed until further notice ???

There is a breather pipe that splits under the airbox. This would be my first port of call.

Is that directly under or towards the back?I tried to remove the airbox but just could not get there, any advise?

Give the number a ring as it could be that they have not updated their site.

Don't ring that guy, he sells diagnostic gear not fixes cars!

He's currently doing a stretch in the nick for a nasty incident.......

I would recommend Merk Solutions in Cramlington, ex MB Newcastle tech, I've used him a couple of times with Mercs that we failed to Diagnose.

I have had a problem with a couple of C180K's in our stock which turned out to be perished breather underneath air filter housing, not difficult just a little tricky.

Well thats a revelation what did he do to get himself incarcerated?.
I have dealt with him for years buying equipment from him and he was doing diagnostics but thanks for the heads up on whats happened.

Crow bar, someone's head apparently?

Well, that'll do it ! lol

On a W203 petrol ,a common cause for the Engine Light to come on is a Split Air Flow Pipe below the Air Filter Box.
Not the easiest to get at, about £15 for the pipe or about £80 for a Specialist to fix including Parts/Labour.

Hi aletank, dragging up this old post, I have a 2004 c180 auto kompressor 104000, recently the engine light came on with code P2029 showing, I noticed alot of faults related to the pipe under the airbox that you mentioned in a post, just checking if you have any info on this code as I was going to use MB TEC in warrington who you also say fixed your merc.

Hi m8, I don't know which codes was showing, as I said the EML came on with no symptoms, I researched the problem online and all was pointing to the split pipe.
I had a look at getting the airbox off myself which I couldn't manage so I gave MB-Tec a call. They put the car on the STAR diagnosis and confirmed it was a split pipe, £80ish later all done and it's been fine since.

Ok thanks, I have found a recall for the same pipe but it looks like its only on the m271 c230 model, I have a m271 c180 petrol auto 2004, what model have you got? and you say your car has been running fine for a few years after this job was done, that sounds good news.
Mine is also running fine all but the EML came on, I got it diagnosed at Selector gearbox cntr in Speke which gave me the P2029 code Mixture Format Self Adaption (Fuel Trim), so hoping its the same problem you had.

Ok thanks for the info pal.
Do you use MB TEC for your servicing? if so whats the cost? mine is due a B service in 3000 miles, should I start saving now!!!

I do my own servicing & what jobs I can, so couldn't comment on their service costs.

Can you tell if this recall covers are M271 C180? on another forum it refers to this recall for the C230 model but on the link above its for the MODEL 203.040/740
Might be worth getting in touch with Mercedes UK or your dealer.
I'm guessing that was a USA recall as I don't think the C180/200 M271 engine was released in the US, just the C230.
Should be a worldwide recall though !
