I have a CLK 230 convertible 2000 on an X plate. Lovely car to drive.

However the engine management light has come on on the dashboard. The car still drives OK. No detectable loss in power or performance. The light came on coincidentally just after I had refilled with petrol after running low(the warning light on the petrol gauge came on. probably coincidence.
The digital display shows "No malfunctions".
I have read on this forum about oil in wiring looms causing this problem but under the bonnet seems fairly clean and dry with no obvious oil leaks anywhere. It's possible I am not looking in the right place of course,
Any advice welcome or information would be welcome.

Thanks

Take the key out of the ignition, open bonnet, take off the cover around the diagnostic plug socket ( philip screws) on the passenger side at the back of the engine bay.
Un-plug the multiplugs from the engine control unit, if there is oil present there then you will need a new engine wiring loom, camshaft magnet, blocker loom, and maybe engine control unit if it is full of oil.

Thanks for the information. However the air conditioning unit occupies the area you describe on the passenger side. I did locate a unit attached to the fuse box which had plugin electronic components. I unplugged these and they were clean and dry. No oil contamination at all. I could see the wiring harness through the ventilation gaps in the fuse box and that seems to be clean and dry also. Is this the loom you mentioned. Also no oil visible on the leads going into this box.
I have attached a couple of pictures,(I hope) which may clarify.
The engine I believe is the 111 engine from the first three digits on the engine number.
Also had the exhaust system checked for leaks yesterday.

Thanks BlackC55. Checked some of your posts yesterday but there are a lot of them. I will continue to trawl through them

Its the other side. 4 Phillips screws. There is nothing to do with the AC in there. The engine control unit is though

You are correct. The air conditioner label misled me.

I checked the plugs. No sign of oil. Also the whole unit seems clean and dry. I can clearly see the bottom of the casing. See the attached picture.
checked all the fuses. They are fine.

I guess the next stop will be a diagnostic check. I am tempted to wait until the next time I refuel just in case I got some dodgy fuel. Unlikely I know but possible.

Diagnostic threw up P0410 secondary air injection system error.

Cleared the fault code and the EML has stayed off, so far!

I had the same error on my clk 200k in the summer cleared fault never came back after some research on how the system works u can get an error if the system does a certain check within so long of car start up and you happen to be on full throttle
