Just wanted to check what you all think about the play in my engine mounts. Compared to video's I have seem on YouTube they seem to be OK?

Not sure if it makes any difference but engine was cold on this test.

Question is do you get vibration in the cabin?
Not that I have noticed no. Main reason to check is that the car has now done 102,000 miles so something I am aware tends to go on these torquey engines.

It moves more than my V8 (with new mounts) , but the V8 is a lot smoother than the V6 , any sign that they have leaked any fluid out ? they don't have to leak before they go bad .They are relatively cheap and not that difficult to change (do the gearbox one at the same time) but if you are not experiencing and knocks or bad vibes I would not be too concerned.

What mileage is the car on buddy ?
I got my E320cdi 2009 mounts changed at just over 100k . I thought that there was a bit of vibration coming through

I might leave them as no issues showing, just something to keep an eye on.

Thanks

Hello, new to the forum and hopefully after some advice?

I have a cabin vibration issue and having researched it was thinking engine and or gearbox mounts.
I've performed the test as per the video and have a similar amount of movement, but with a more distinct shudder on start up and as it returns to idle. It's a 2010 E350 with 125,000 mies and a comprehensive history, but no record of the mounts being replaced. It's just had a complete set of tyres to cure speed related vibration and my usual garage reckon they are fine - they actually try and save me money! Their diagnosis after checking and servicing was the tyres and suggested going directly to the fitters as they would be cheaper. The garage has mentioned that they've never had to replace engine mounts on these, but have done a few gearbox.

Although improved, however I still experience various low level vibration and shimmies that appear to be speed, revs, temperature, road condition related and felt through the whole body with definite frequencies. Being a convertible they get worse with the roof down, but different to the potential scuttle shake that convertibles may have.
Although not massive, they take the edge off the car and overall comfort, not something suffered by previous BMW's. Any suggestions, would it be worth fitting new mounts anyway?
Thanks.

Hello Swem and welcome . The garage say they have never replaced engine mounts on this engine , which is fine , but that might because they do not do a lot of MB work .

Either way , at 125K miles it would be a good idea to replace them anyway as they are not expensive or difficult to change . You can buy OEM mounts from Mercedes Benz but most owners buy replacements elsewhere , go for Lemforder who are the suppliers to Mercedes Benz . Do the gearbox mount at the same time , again another inexpensive part from Lemforder.

Why not do the gearbox one first and see if that resolves the issue? It’s the cheapest and easiest to do. The one on our SLK had collapsed causing vibration.

As above , change the mounts and transmission mount, they are due at that age . I bought mine from Autodoc a few months ago and all in with my Indy changing them was £220 . I went for Lemforder
Also when was your last gearbox ATF change ?

Great, thanks everyone.
Was coming to that conclusion, will do all three.
Had the roof down yesterday over some quick but poor road surfaces, shimmying and vibrating like anything.!
